Yes. Bingo.

I was too young to appreciate Paul Harvey back in the day. I'm thinking the Fairness Doctrine may have kept him from being as big as he could have been.

Like Rush, PH was an amazing communicator. We need to take heart that Limbaugh wasn't the only effective voice on the Right in history. I want to believe there's someone out there waiting to be heard. It may take extraordinary circumstances for that person to come forward. You know, like today. I'm going to have patience and faith. The time couldn't be riper.

I theorize that listenership can drop dramatically in this time slot without making Rush's show unviable. It isn't like there are blockbuster shows competing in this time slot. If listenership drops to normal levels for nationwide radio shows, they will lament the old days of Rush's massive advertising appeal, but maybe be somewhat content with "normal" levels of listeners.

I personally would like to see Mark Steyn take over. The show needs to go forward. It is OK to check the rear view mirror once in a while, but it is not to be used exclusively while driving forward.

The other guest hosts are fine, but Steyn stands out head and shoulders above the rest.

Well said, DJ_Boston. I agree.
I don't want to wait another day. This should happen now.

^^^THIS...Can't happen soon enough!

Someone needs to call the play....Stein needs to get the handoff and run with the EIB football. My first, and ONLY thought re: a successor to replace Rush was Stein. At this point it's somewhat baffeling that there was seemingly NO defined succession plan in place. If there is, there's certainly NO evidence of it... Confused

They're real close to losing me. Every day I start listening with a vow to turn it off the first time they play "Rush wisdom."

Yesterday it was in the first ten minutes, today it was less than five. CLICK.

I haven't listened to a single minute since Rush passed.

They need to move on and they need to move on quickly now. Stick Mark Steyn in the spot permanently and be done with it.

Bongino to take Rush's time slot

Cumulus Media and Westwood One have agreed to terms with conservative commentator Dan Bongino to host a daily three-hour show from 12-3pm eastern.

Bongino currently hosts a daily podcast for Westwood One that since March 2020 has been repurposed into a one-hour syndicated show on over 100 stations including 790 KABC Los Angeles and 560 KSFO San Francisco.

The new show would air live in the timeslot currently held by Limbaugh on many if not all Cumulus owned Conservative Talk and News Talk stations.

Bongino is a former NYPD officer and Secret Service agent turned conservative pundit and investor in digital properties including Parler and Rumble. He has previously served as a fill-in host at WMAL Washington and WBAL Baltimore and multiple syndicated talkers including Sean Hannity.

An official announcement should be forthcoming by early next week.

A friend of mine who gets the daily Rush podcast and who has been watching all this post-Rush stuff unfold told me tonight he was getting the impression that Mark Steyn is NOT going to take over for Rush?

If not Mark, then who? IMO he was the ONLY person that had any chance of continuing in the same way???

I really have no idea what they are thinking, you’d think Rush would have started grooming someone to take his place? Did he have such a huge ego that this never happened? Confused

How does that work though? Rush was on Premiere Radio Network, not Cumulus or Westwood One...

He's not taking over for Rush. He's simply staring a live radio show that happens to be in that time slot

Well, I'm with Alan. My strong preference would be for Mark Steyn--but maybe he doesn't want to devote his entire life to a talk radio show as Rush did.
If Dan Bongino is starting a 3-hour talk show on another network, then he would potentially be competing with whomever is taking Rush's show. That wouldn't be a bad thing at all IMO.

Steyn did a 3 day consecutive guest host slot last year, where by day 3 he was clearly and openly, climbing the walls.
He has frequently said how difficult it must be to do what Rush did, speak with fresh commentary every day for 3 hours.
As brilliant as Steyn is, and as much as I would love to listen to him every day, I think he made it clear that he wanted no part of that.

Steyn has a lot going for him but he can be too cute by half, opting for flippancy over substance. He's particularly bad at handling contrary calls, not suffering fools lightly.

Bongino is wound too tight. He's a fighter no doubt and should draw some listeners, I'd tune in with reservations.

I still think Tammy Bruce or Mark Davis from Dallas could be real interesting. Davis would have to re-tool for a national audience, I think he has those chops.

As it stands, many of us now have a three hour midday block to repurpose. Let nature take its course and hope for the best. Bottom line, no one broadcaster is going to beat back the leftist horde, we all have a lot of work ahead.
