That’s your wisdom? Really?

You haven’t ridden in a Jeep in over 40 years but you’ve heard that the “newer” wranglers ride rough and you think that they might be noisy too.

Ok.

Well, do you know that Jeep already offers a cool micro off-roader? They do. It’s called a Wrangler. I know it’s been over 40 years but, dude, if you check them out, they’re still pretty small. If you go any smaller it’s called an ATV. If you go any bigger it’s called a wrangler unlimited. Besides, going smaller certainly wouldn’t be a recipe for solving the complaint you think you heard about jeeps riding rough and being noisy. Maybe that’s why they haven’t done it? Because people might think they rode rough and were more noisy.

And before you even ask…No, wranglers are not usually considered as “gas guzzling pigs” by those who know what they’re talking about.

My buddy/former brother-in-law and i speak regularly on the phone and text. Our shared interest are basically HiFi/music and cars. Other than watching YouTube reviews and other car related videos, I hear it from my buddy, who has a multitude of acquaintances and friends he obtains a lot of firsthand and secondhand information from relating to a whole host of topics. In addition to that, he is Mr Consumer Reports.

So, when I say I “hear” things, that’s where I’m hearing it in addition to the first and second hand information I received when I ask people their experiences and opinions on things.

I’m not shy. Someone pulls up to a gas pump with a vehicle I want to know a little hands-on, I will start talking to the guy or gal. I pull someone over on a traffic stop, I may chitty chat about their vehicle.

Yes, I’ve been in new Wranglers at the dealer, car shows, traffic accidents, etc, but I’ve never driven one or have been a passenger in one.

I like small vehicles, as I have said. I’ve had 4 classic VW beetles and 4 MINIS. When I say I would like Jeep to come out with a micro 4WD/AWD, I’m talking like a Suzuki Samurai-sized, if not something between that and a Wrangler. A Subaru Brat even comes to mind. Something you can take off road with confidence, but again, just not as big as the Wranglers and Gladiators.

^ This sums it up for me. My son and I both have Jeeps that we enjoy. His is a 4 door. Mine is a 2 door. However, no way that it would be my only vehicle and daily driver. I have a Subaru and Toyota for daily commutes.

I have a 4runner and a 4dr Rubicon, had two Pilots previously. The Jeep is my vehicle and we use it for most recreation. The 4Runner is my wife's and is mostly used for shopping and whenever we don't need the Jeep. The 4Runner is a 2022, bought mainly because other vehicles were a long wait. I got really good feed back from friends with 4Runners, some with well over 150K.

The 4Runner may never go off road, the Jeep does all the time. The Jeep has had some things break, now at 80K and is a 2014. The 4Runner has only 17K and has been trouble free.

We had a 2004 and a 2011 Pilot, my wife just wanted something different. In our area you mostly see SUVs, P/Us and Jeeps, she would not be comfortable in a smaller vehicle.

I've had my 2017 Honda Pilot since new. Its been wonderful and zero issues so far over 60,000 miles. The V6 is pretty good these at this point with plenty of power and they fixed the 9 speed issues.

As I said, I love my Jeep.

However, if spend a lot of time on the highway, be advised that an hour in a Jeep is a loooong time. Big Grin

Update thanks for all the good input. I will pick up a new Toyota 4runner tomorrow. A 2023 TRD off RD Prem in Lunar Rock. Even though it is kind of old school in someways it checked the most boxes for my needs.

Nice. Congrats!

I know the "flat" colors are real popular now but they used to make a color called "shadow mica" which I really like.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Mine is Lunar Rock, even in an area infested with 4Runners we don't see many. My wife has had several people tell her how much they like the color. Honestly, I like bright colors and the 2023 Solar Octane really appeals to me.

Congratulations on the new ride. I was down to a mental battle between the 4Runner and Pilot and only the fact that I wanted the max comfort caused me to buy the Pilot. My late friend, at about the same time, picked the 4Runner and never had a moment's regret.

Again, congrats and I hope you really enjoy your Toyota.
