Looking for new ride. It is down to 2023 jeep wrangler, toyota 4runner, honda pilot. The 4runner goes to a turbo 4 cyl in 2024. Prefer to have a non turbo v6 engine. So the 2024 4runner will be no go. Looks like I need to decide soon. What one should I get?

No Jeep for me. I really like the new Pilot. I would wait since this is the first year of this design though. 4Runner is good. I vote Honda, Toyota then Jeep a distant 3rd. Easily swap one and two. I would not be opposed to shop slightly used. We just got a 21' Highlander with under 10k miles. Has the V6 which is why I bought it. Really nice rig. 27 mpg on a recent trip doing 75mph "Practice like you want to play in the game"

I have a Wrangler Rubicon, and I love it. I have the turbo 4 banger, with 4.10 gears on 35’s. You may check out the turbo 4, it’s pretty impressive. It’s also pretty damn quick. As far as the jeep, it can out perform me. What I mean is it is more capable than my driving skills. It’s quite capable and a whole lot of fun. The “lol” thread

I have a V-6 Cherokee Trailhawk and love it. I think 2022 was the last year for the V-6 in the Jeep. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

4Runner all day long. Nothing else on the U.S. market comes close. Body-on-frame mid-size SUV, still made in Japan in one of Toyota's best factories. Old-school 4.0 V-6, old-school transmission, powerful, smooth, legendary reliability and resell value. Still pretty simple compared to what's currently out there. Toyota will refresh the 4Runner soon and no doubt it will have a hybrid power plant with the associated complexities, etc. If you like that stuff, you might want to wait for the new version. If not, get one now.

I would test drive the Jeep, or try to rent one for a week. I found them to way to small inside, not enough "fun factor" to make it worth it for us. Between the 4 Runner and the Pilot, it would depend on your needs. I think the Pilot rode better, but the 4 Runner was much more capable. I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

4Runner is an AMAZING vehicle. I traded in my F150 King Ranch for one 2 yrs ago, and never looked back. I plan to put at LEAST 200K miles on it. . . Not sure if Jeep has the same reliability. Not a Honda fan. Good cars; I just prefer Toyota. Fear God and Dread Nought Admiral of the Fleet Sir Jacky Fisher

I've had 5 Jeeps over the last 60 years. If you needs can stand various quirks, they add a dimension missing in other more rational vehicles.

I have had two Pilots and a 4Runner. Both the Pilot and the 4Runner are good vehicles. I experienced high reliability with both Honda and Toyota. To me the real difference is your mission. I'll put it this way. The Pilot is 80% paved road, 20% offroad if your offroad is limited to gravel/dirt roads that are not challenging. That is supposed to change with the Trailsport but there are still limitations. The Pilot has good space for people and gear. FWIW, the Passport Trailsport model is slightly more offroad capable (approach and departure angles) and less expensive. The 4Runner is 50% road, 50% offroad. That percentage can change based on model and aftermarket equipment (and there is a lot of aftermarket gear available). If your mission requires access to rougher roads, the 4Runner is the way to go. The 4Runner is a bit less refined than the Pilot for highway driving but that wasn't a problem for me. Neither one is going to win the 1/4 at the local dragstrip but performance on both is adequate. I can't speak in detail on the wrangler. I want one but not for my daily driver. Highway manners are the limiting factor to me. I do like that one can get a manual in the Jeep. Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?

I’ve owned three 4Runner’s and two jeeps. If I had the opportunity, I would buy a new 4Runner and never look back. ___________________________ All it takes...is all you got. ____________________________ For those who have fought for it, Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

Well it depends on your mission but if you need a quick answer I'd go with the 4Runner. Ok, in all seriousness which is most comfortable to sit in? I'm not talking a few minutes of sitting but for a half hour or more. We all know the Toyota and Honda should be the most reliable, and it's not even close. Honestly the Jeep wouldn't even be on any kind of list for me. Sometimes, you gotta roll the hard six

I like the 4Runner, but it’s olde. As in really old. It still has a 5 speed and gets worse gas mileage than a Tundra. Lots of better options, IMO. _________________________ "Age does not bring wisdom. Often it merely changes simple stupidity into arrogant conceit. It's only advantage, so far as I have been able to see, is that it spans change. A young person sees the world as a still picture, immutable. An old person has had his nose rubbed in changes and more changes and still more changes so many times that that he knows it is a moving picture, forever changing. He may not like it--probably doesn't; I don't--but he knows it's so, and knowing is the first step in coping with it." Robert Heinlein

First, decide what you want your vehicle for. The Honda seems like the dramatic outlier on your list. Reliable weekend car camper and grocery getter with an easy to drive style…sure. But “Off-Roader”? Come on man…. The other two are capable off-roaders with the wrangler the most capable of the two but with that also comes some sacrifices. The 4 runner is in the middle of the two and skewed towards the wrangler imo. Me, I have a 2017 manual wrangler unlimited recon rubicon and it is everything I wanted it for. It’s definitely a lifestyle vehicle. Still makes me smile every time I get in. Fun Ride. The v-6 has been proven for years and it has the best resale value of any vehicle made. Does the Bronco come with a manual AND a 6 cylinder? I think it’s just on the 4. But it’s been out long enough to have many of the bugs sorted out. 0:01

4Runner Wrangler ... ... Something Else ... Pilot ... Many other options ... Nissan Armada But, I've never been a big fan of the Pilot. And if it has the 9spd auto, I've heard it's really not good. The 10spd is supposed to be a lot better. The Enemy's gate is down.

Thank you Very little |
The one advantage to the Jeep is they are making deals on them, especially the Gladiator, you can get a discount, vs paying full sticker for a Toyota, so if you want a Jeep then now is the time. As others said I find the interiors cramped but I'm used to Full Size crew cab pickup space, so even the others like the Toyota feel small. Worth a test drive and see what the money deal is on them.

Having had two 4Runners in the past that where bulletproof, held their value and provided a comfortable ride given the stiff suspension, I'd lean that direction. Or maybe the Lexus GX 460 that sports 4.6-liter V8 engine if I could afford the reduced MPG. Nothing wrong with the Jeep but it is somewhat in a different category. Probably the least expensive of the ones in question. No direct experience with the Honda and it does have a 10 speed trans and no cvt and is a Honda so it's no doubt good to go. Don’t know where you live Jelly but if want a price on anything MOPAR you would be well served to call Sandi Amrith at Mark Dodge in Lake Charles Louisiana. They are an enormous dealer and Sandi can make you an extraordinarily good Internet price. Me, I did not want to travel to Lake Charles Louisiana, so they shipped the vehicle to me. Even with the shipping cost, I got a very deep sub-MSRP discount. Also, if you go onto the Jeep website, build a Jeep and submit a request more information noting that you intend to purchase in the near term they will typically send you a manufacturers “golden ticket” coupon by email that you can redeem with your dealer. 0:01

If you see me running try to keep up |
I just traded in my 21 Tacoma TRD for a 23 4Runner. Make sure you test drive the 4runner adequately. My new 4Runner has a vibration at 60 mph that the dealer cannot fix. The steering wheel vibrates very noticeably. Apparently it's a known issue on gen 5 4Runners and Toyota ignores it but something I'm not happy with on a 45k vehicle. My 2019 has been problem free so I expected the same from my 23. I'm looking into the lemon law as a possible resolution at this point.

After test driving a 4 runner shopping for our last vehicle, I don't know how Toyota sells a single one. My wife and I both hated it for different reasons. Totally gutless, not particularly comfortable, and rode worse than my '96 Cherokee with 300k+ miles. It wasn't an upgrade in any way over what I already had. I ended up getting a Lexus GX460. The 460 is my daily, and the Jeep comes out if want to play or if I'm going anywhere I think the 460 might start to struggle with clearance or traction. "The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people." "Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy." "I did," said Ford, "it is." "So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?" "It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want." "You mean they actually vote for the lizards." "Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course." "But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?" "Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

That Toyota will probably run to 300,000 miles but it's archaic. I wouldn't be concerned with a turbo 4, it's the way motors are going, technology is leaps and bounds ahead of even just 3-4 years ago. Of those 3, I'd buy the Honda, they seem to keep their vehicles more modern and updated than Toyota. I've never, and never will, had a Jeep product. Just not for me. _____________
