Correct! Almost 50 years ago the manager of the first KFC in Japan cooked up a plan to ignite sales. He simply concocted a wild story that eating fried chicken, esp. from KFC, was a time-honored holiday tradition in America. In actuality, the story had absolutely no basis in fact, but trendy Japanese eager to absorb western culture began flocking to newly-opened stores. The custom remains a wildly popular cultural phenomenon to this day, observed by most Japanese, even though many decades after the fact the manager came clean and expressed remorse that the initial success of the fast food chain in Japan was all based on a lie.
