Can't be. I was told the dinosaurs never existed and that's all an ongoing satanic hoax because the bible says God created the world in seven days, so how could it be millions upon millions of years old?

They claim carbon dating is shit and life on earth only goes back about 6000 years

If God is eternal, why does one of His days need to equal 24 hrs and not more (or be variable)?

I asked a very learned holy man and asked him the same followed by the question, what if on the 8th day God sent His Son and, we are living the 9th day? Wink

This is one of the arguments I've always heard & makes sense.
Just because it says 'on the first day' doesn't mean that was 24 hours. The first day could've well been a million years.

^That's how I think. In fact, my theory is that a Genesis "day" is 1 billion earth years, and the "night" is also 1 billion. So each full day is 2 billion years. Times the 7 days of creation gives 14 billion years- the approximate age of our universe.

The Sun and moon were not created on the first day of creation. Any human who wrote the bible would have created the sun and moon on day 1.
General discussion in the Jewish Talmud does incorporate a lot more than a solar day into the first days of creation, which can account for the earth being much older.

I’m not sure about a global flood, but a local flood confined to the “world” as it was known then, seems likely. It would make the logistics of the ark much more manageable.

I believe the Earth is billions of years old. Some believe 6000 years. It is not a hill I will die on, nor an argument I will pick with others.

As far as those demanding 'proof' before they believe, I suspect no amount of evidence will sway many opinions.

To the Skeptic, no proof is sufficient.
To the Believer, no proof is necessary.

Joe: God, how much is a billion dollars worth in heaven?

God: A dollar.

Joe: Can I have a dollar?

God: Sure, be back in a minute. Don’t you go anywhere.

Nah, He created them so we could have oil hence, oil is a natural product and anything created from is likewise natural, even if it takes 10,000 years to decompose.

Just like coal is a natural byproduct of trees and burning trees to stay warm and cook has been around since Prometheus gave us fire. Wink

And Satan was a rebellious teenager when he was kicked out of Heaven.

The amount of moisture that can be present in the atmosphere is astounding.

In the beginning the water above the firmament was at a constant, resulting in higher and more stable temperatures. A sweet place for a garden.

In the description of the events that took place during Noah's time also describe plate tectonics, atmospheric particulates, and subterranean aquifers.

Had some goofwads tried to make this up all by themselves, I don't think any of these concepts would have appeared in the Dead Sea Scrolls.

The circle of the Earth is also described as 'hanging upon nothing. Not being held by elephants standing on turtles standing on snakes (no word on what the snakes were standing on...).

These were not concepts back then known by people who would have had to guess, but were well known by He who put them there.

So God put some bones there to trick us into thinking that there might have been dinosaurs?

Really?

Some years back, I found the tip of a stellasaurus horn embedded in the wall of a dried creek bed whilst antelope hunting out east of Jordan, MT (otherwise known as dinosaur central). "God was just fucking with me, right?", I say as I sit here with said horn in my hand.

I was merely offering that as a a counter to the "satanic hoax". I am not invested in the dinosaur argument. It's not a "matter of salvation".

As believers, I think we should have something to offer, when confronted with myriad topics. The dinosaur one is a popular/common stumbling block or "gotcha" topic.

I have been confronted with it. I wasn't sharp enough, at the time, to offer a rebuttal involving sophisticated alternative time measurements and whatnot.

If I don't have an answer for something faith-related, I am comfortable saying "I don't know", but the conversation will often end there, as the non-believing party will have seen you as having lost your credibility.

If you were having a conversation with a non-believer friend (in an evangelism context), and he/she brought up dinosaurs, what would you say?

I'd show them the horn, verified as authentic, and nearly 75,000,000 million years old, by Jack Horner, lead paleontologist at the Museum of the Rockies at the time, himself.

Some people are idiots.

So do you subscribe to the alternative time measurement? The "days" in Genesis are thousands (or millions)of years? I am not challenging you. I am wanting to get a better grip myself.

Do you know how many of us you just called idiots? I’m pretty sure I’m not one, but being called an idiot for my faith by a non-believer is about as impactful as being called a racist, nazi, bigot, fascist, by a lefty these days.

I forgive you and will honestly say a prayer for you tonight, friend.

Suppose the act of creation echos both forwards and backwards in time, then the question of when the act of creation occurred becomes meaningless.
