I don't have an MBA, hence the questions: 1. Is blaming an $8 billion writedown PER QUARTER due to a "small minority" a sound business practice? 2. How long does a CEO continue to count on $8 billion worth of new customers to fall more deeply in love with his brand? My apologies for contributing to your $8B loss, sir. I’m sure P&G won’t mind an 8 Billon dollar loss, if it keeps the SJW happy, by pissing off customers. Must be a new class I didn’t take that’s its OK to piss on your customer base. Will bet shortly there will be a memo that we wish him well , but he will be pursuing other interests. "Hold my beer.....Watch this".

What an idiot. Wonder if he'd think that way with a baker not baking a cake for a gay couple... If I was a stockholder/shareholder and/or on the board, I'd want him removed immediately. Asshole is playing with my investment as if it were Monopoly money.
That richard doesn't have an MBA, either. So $8 billion is from a small minority? I'm sure the small companies out there wouldn't mind $8 billion in gross sales. What rocks do they dig up to find these "leaders" from? _____________

I hear that the President of Harry's offered to pay the networks to continue airing the recent Gillette commercial.

If I were ceo of P&G and the guy from Gillette told me we lost 8 BILLION dollar, he would be escorted out of the building. Regardless of why. I use a DE razor. From time to time I couldn't find my preferred brand (Van Der Hagen) I would buy Gillette. I think I still have one old pack in the cabinet that's never been opened I'd bought before all this. Now if I can't find my brand on the shelf, I'll just go to a different store rather than settle for Gillette. And I'm sure there are a tone of people that would love to have just the after tax profit on $8 billion in sales. If I had just a percentage of that I'd retire to a place where I could build me an ultimate boonker. _______________________ “The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Sadly: My wife bought me a 5 blade Harry's starter set. It came with two blades. I rate it 1/5 stars, and the one is because it was an olive drab colored set, and cheaper than Gillette. Cheaper, but not a better value. From the start, both blades tugged, pulled and were literally painful to use. I used them three out of five days a week over a 2-3 month period, alternating with my old Gillette Mach V. Harry's required about four passes over the same spot to shave, compared to one with the Gillette. The Gillette blade is still sharp and in use. The Harry's handle and accessory covers just went in the trash. Very disappointing. Happy to report, Harry's shave gel is good to go. ____________________

Wait, what? |
Thread drift- does nobody care to use electric shavers like the Norelco line? Is it just a “shaving zen” thing? I have 2 Norelco’s (one for my face, one for my dome) and both work just fine with no cuts, pulled hairs, or razor burn. I used to be a shaving cream guy but when I started shaving my head, that ended. Both leave a completely smooth surface and when you average the cost per shave over time it has to be cheaper. “Remember to get vaccinated or a vaccinated person might get sick from a virus they got vaccinated against because you’re not vaccinated.” - author unknown

I am not a ZEN shaver, don't even like to shave and more often then not over the many years have a goatee. All that being said electric shavers just never work for me. They take too long, never seem to shave close, clog up easier and just seem like more of a PITA for me personally. I can slap on some shaving cream and zip down my face much faster and closer with a razor. Now I don't get hung up on what razor or what shaving cream or number of blades or whether it tugs etc. I just want it to get rid of the hair as quickly as possible so I can get on with my day. I have, however, started purging Gillette products simply because I am apparently a rapey, dangerous, woman hating, minority oppressing, baby killing, gay bashing, bringer of the apocalypse or some such and I feel it would be in bad form for somebody like me to buy from them. DEAR INTERNET.....Should you think I am actually any of those things, have I got a real estate deal for you. Its a BEAUTIFUL bridge, you'll love it. "Guns are tools. I'm with cslinger. I did the Norelco thing for years, and that was the best of the electrics for me. I found it slower, less close, and when I let the beard go too long, very painful as it pulled on the longer hairs. A good, sharp, double blade disposable from BJ's works fine for me. I buy them in a 60 pack for about $24, and the pack lasts me a couple of years, as they don't dull quickly. Shaving is something I'd like to avoid. In fact, if I could take a pill that froze all hair growth on me at it's current state, I'd do it. Despite their nonsensical assertion that the 8 billion write-down was due to just normal everyday business forces, Gillette is now rolling out a new ad campaign, and shockingly!, it's not a social justice warrior campaign. Gee, I wonder why since it worked so well? https://townhall.com/tipsheet/...q5ZCSveMBS7Hqp7v6uV8 Having Taken Hit After 'Toxic Masculinity' Ad, Gillette Is Trying a New Campaign Gillette took a drastically different direction in its advertising last January when it released a commercial that challenged the idea of traditional masculinity. The company's well-known slogan, "The best a man can get," was tweaked into a question, "Is this the best a man can get?" That message was accompanied by scenes of the "Me Too" movement and examples of workplace sexism. Even liberal Piers Morgan got heated over it, calling it "PC guff" on Twitter and ranting about the ad on "Good Morning Britain." "Let boys be damn boys," he said. "Let men be damn men.” A few months later, Gillette released another social justice-like ad which depicted a father teaching his transgender son how to shave. Cue more backlash. The outrage against the hyper-political ads could account for the company's recent $8 billion writedown. “P&G reported a net loss of about $5.24 billion, or $2.12 per share, for the quarter ended June 30, due to an $8 billion non-cash writedown of Gillette," Reuters reported at the end of July. "For the same period last year, P&G’s net income was $1.89 billion, or 72 cents per share.” The company opted to blame the numbers on the increased competition from the likes of the Dollar Shave Club and Harry’s. It also pointed to a decreased demand for men's razors. “Lower shaving frequency has reduced the size of the developed blades and razors market,” according to CFO Jon Moeller. But, the latest Gillette ad at least suggests that the company has learned its lesson about the unpopularity of its PC campaign. The razor company is “shifting the spotlight from social issues to local heroes.” First up is Australian firefighter and personal trainer Ben Ziekenheiner.
Male consumers may not think Gillette is still the "best" they can get, but they can admit that this kind of advertisement is at least better. “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” - John Adams

So sorry P&G/Gillette...I switched to Dorco when your blades started costing me about $2 per unit. Too bad, so sad, your dad. Your SJW bullcrap will not be forgotten anytime soon. Take a hike... Yup. I’ve got a Gillette razor they got their $1.50 for in 1955, a 200 pack of Feather blades, enough shave soap to last a few years and I’m experimenting with making my own. Add to that a handful of straight razors that I only need to snag some honing stones for. I can spend $20 a year or less on shaving from here on out and they’ll never see a dime of it. They jumped their shark. ______________________________________________ Carthago delenda est

It is not often that I can play a small part in a company losing that kind of money but I was happy to do so. I had used Gillette products since the 1970s but the SJW video B.S. put a stop to that and I switched to Harrys after some experimenting. It was later that I discovered Harrys had also tried going the SJW route but quickly realized their mistake and quit. People learn from their mistakes and take corrective action-Gillette evidently does not.

Most off brand razors are produced by Dorco. Dollar Shave Club and Harry's get their blades through them.
