I am the clinical definition of an Odd Duck.

I was thinking today about several conservatives who went a bit wacky and went left in their last years on earth.

I am not doing that. If anything, I seem to have hardened my position between right and wrong.
I have noticed that I am less judgemental of family but more judgemental and suspicious of others than I have previously been in life.
Perhaps it's because I have no time for screwing around wasting time on them, I don't know.

I am not sure what I was expecting, but not what I wrote above.
Nonetheless, there it is.
In my situation, I seem to learn a lot about myself that may have otherwise remained unknown.
For the most part, they are good things.

I always knew what I wanted to be about in my heart of hearts, but I was never sure until push came to shove.
Now I know.

On a lighter note, I finally got my custom order hat from Greeley Hat.
I like it.

I also posted in my hat thread, but I wanted it on the record here as well, seeing as how younger daughter will one day go through this thread and organize my posts into something coherent.

These days, I am always looking for quality family time, so this Friday, it's family hat day!

That hat is WAY cool!

It is loosely based on the hat Clint Eastwood wore in A Fistful of Dollars.

The color is different.
I ran into a bit of a problem when designing it because a taller rise looked goofy on me, so I had that minimized a little for a better overall look.

The rise is a little shorter by a 1/4 inch and the dome is a tiny bit higher than the rise by 1/8inch.
The brim edges are curled up a little all the way around. I would prefer the brim perfectly straight and flat, but again, practicality came into play. I needed a slight curl up because I wear my hats real low and my vision would be impaired if the brim was flat. I went for visibility over style.
The hatband with imprinted pattern is a perfect replica.

The color is called mink and it is a very warm brown with a bit of something else which brightens the color.
It is mink/beaver so I think that makes sense.

The reality is that hats can be anything you want them to be.
And always have been.

The fit is good too, way better than an off the shelf one IMO.
I have a flat spot on the side of my head.
Probably from getting a hard knock somewhere as a child.

We're gonna need to get you some Toscano cigars!

Older daughter had to work today.

3 of us 4 went to the hat place and Mrs LBJ and younger daughter ordered hats.
I will take older daughter on Monday to order hers.

Unfortunately, the wait time is now 60 days instead of the 30 I waited for mine.
Every year Greeley has an event called The Greeley Stampede and Greeley Hat has an order for 75 custom hats for the event.

That right there is one nice hat!

It's too bad about family hat day.

Oldest daughter could not help it she was called into work.
I had this planned out for about a week and all was going perfectly.

I spend my time these days thinking hard and planning family oriented things and outings for the four of us. Well five of us since the grandchild is almost here.
It's become super important to me.

To have this one fall apart just minutes before leaving for the store is very disappointing to me.
I completely understand why we couldn't do it, but still.

On the other hand, oldest daughter and I will go to the hat place Monday, and it will be a special time for just the two of us.
I cannot argue against having quality time one on one with oldest daughter.

Look at the outing this way - although your wife was with you, you had one daughter to really care and talk with at the shop. On Monday, you'll be able to do the same with the other.

I wish I could pull off a awesome hat like that but I guess I have an odd head shape. You should get some quality photos of you and yours on hat day. We just sprung for a quality photographer and he made even me look ok. At first I wouldn't have been inclined to shell out $500 for 12 photos but then my girls will cherish those photos so what the heck. Just a thought.

That's a nice hat. I look forward to the pictures of th family hats. Maybe one at the upcoming festival?

Plus you get a cedar wood insert to keep the hat in the shape of your head when not wearing it.
