And Happy Thanksgiving to all. The bolt carrier in it is a temporary one while the M16 bolt carrier that came with this relatively new 6720 upper is at Cogan being hard chromed. The one in there now is a RR. I like it and it will go back in the upper it came out of. But that will be in about five weeks. In the meantime, I need a BC in it for field testing and the picture. All my bolt carriers are hard chromed. I do not mind switching carriers, but I do not switch bolts. Bolts are individually mated for the uppers they originated with. I do not use chromed bolts, just Colt ones the way they came from Colt. I am not a Colt snob. I agree there are many quality AR15 makers these days. My first AR15 rifle was a Colt so I just stay with Colt pretty much. Thanks for noticing. I am amazed at some of what you all remember. I did decide to go away from the Colt half moon unshrouded carriers. I am currently using RR chromed semi auto carriers that are shrouded in my uppers. Let's see what's new in Wigley World. Youngest daughter who is pregnant moved in with us 10 days ago. We got to meet the boyfriend who is 21 and 4 years younger than she is. You know how 21 year old males are but I did push a few buttons and he passed those tests. One morning I was sitting at the breakfast table and he was just talking and going on non stop which was getting to me. He then ask me if there was anything he could do as payment for staying with us the last 10 days. I looked at him in all seriousness and said "Silence would be nice." And then he didn't say a word for the 10 minutes I was on the computer. Oldest daughter moved back in too as she has boyfriend problems. So, here I am with a house full of family and all the coming and goings of young people. I had hoped for peace and quiet since I am sick, and they do try and all to be quiet as they can. Quiet as they can is the operative phrase here, even when young people are quiet, they are not really quiet. You know how that goes. Again, I really had hoped it would be the wife and I only, but it is not to be. On a positive note though, perhaps God helped arrange what is going on, and there is no doubt my children need my guidance. Having them living with me allows me easier access to them, so perhaps this is the mission, ie that it is necessary for them to be here at my home precisely because they need parenting, and I'm the one to do it. It is hard to argue with God's plan, so I bite the bullet and carry on. I mean, it's the Just Cause. We all need guidance here and there and I really believe I can help them. Target date for pregnant daughter to move into an apartment with her boyfriend is May 1st. He left Saturday and went back to Dallas to work and await a job transfer back her about that time. Other than that, I continue with the every 2 week infusion of Opdivo and hope it is still working. I get a scan the Thursday before Christmas, so we will see. As time goes on, the side effects from the Opdivo are beginning to pop up. I am told that it is not uncommon for this drug to be innocuous at first and the side effects to build over time. It has gotten to the point that after infusion, I am down for the count for a day and half. Oh well. I am still fooling around with the firearm hobby. Why I would order spare Bulgarian AK74 parts like bolt, carrier and recoil spring are beyond me. I mean, I won't live long enough to use them, but still I feel the need to stock parts and ammunition. While I may go overboard and all, the family who kind of laughs about what I do now, will certainly be very happy when they inherit all my collection, and then it won't seem so silly. Once I pass away, it would be interesting to see their expressions when they discover everything. It would be quite a sight. I mean, I haven't told them everything, so there will be some surprises. The ammunition collection alone is going to drop jaws. I can have fun with my firearms and ammunition while on the planet, and I see noting wrong perfecting things as long as I am around. I mean I am retired and have to have a hobby. Retired, yes, great. It's already gotten to the point where it does not matter if it's Tuesday or Friday. I had to edit this 5 times to correct spelling and missing words and the like. The Opdivo does that to me. Yes, firearms can be a great hobby. Not everything about firearms has to be self defense, though that is the most important thing about them. It's pretty easy to pick out one's needs and train for self defense. The hobby part is much more interesting, entertaining and sometimes more complicated. Hard to know the future, I will take what God gives me and be satisfied. There really is no room in my heart to view things any other way. Everything emanates from God, and this includes science and medicine. Yes, gifts from God, and there is no incompatibility that I can detect. This modified Bulgarian AK74 is pretty cute. It is hard not to want spare parts for it. To deny this rifle spare parts is nothing short of heresy. I am not a heretic. Hi Tom Prayers sent for your upcoming CT Scan. Prayers sent for the house full of Family. I read that you are tired one to two days after infusion. That is a normal thing and it is called Chemo Fog. When I was in the middle of concurrent Chemo Infusion and Daily Radiation for seven weeks. I can remember barely getting out of bed one morning as I had to go for a Radiation Treatment and an appointment with the Oncology Nurse. Radiation was first then upstairs to my Oncology Nurse appointment. Oncology Department pulled a blood sample and then I was to see the Oncology Nurse. Well the Oncology Nurse comes in and sits down. Takes my vitals and looks at my blood lab results. She tells me I need a Blood Transfusion like yesterday. Asks if I can go to the Hospital and get my blood typed today and go back tomorrow for the two unit transfusion. Said I will need a driver tomorrow. Sometimes there are bad reactions to a transfusion. Well I called wife and told her the plan for today and tomorrow as we have a Daughter we need to get to School and pick her up in the afternoon. Time frames looked good to get all this done tomorrow. I almost fell out of the recliner at the Hospital Infusion Department the next day when the nurse reads the label off the first bag regarding the general donor info. It was when she said the Donor was from Idaho the Meat and Potato Eating State and therefore it is good blood. I said as long as the Donor was not from San Francisco CA. I should be ok. Well about three hours after the two units I felt as I may have did a line of Coke or something. I had this burst of energy and felt I could walk around the block a couple of times. Tom you got to remember that Infusion Chemo will kill a bunch of good stuff also and they will push your body to the limits. They will watch your blood very closely and it will be fine. Just before the blood transfusion I was so weak that I would lean against the wall in the shower and the wife would wash most of me. I was thankful that there was enough room to put a stool in the shower so I could sit down and was my feet and lower legs. That was seven years ago. When I started my battle the research I did and info I found stated less then 10 percent make it to the five year mark. Well I made it and past it. I had a lot of People in my brothers Church’s prayer group praying for me. You are in his groups prayers and are in my family’s Daily Prayers. We just go forward and do the best we can. Today was a first for me. I went Christmas shopping. I took my youngest daughter to the gun store, she filled out the Form 4478, passed her background check and walked out of the store with her new Glock 19. I am very proud. What a great experience... watching one of my daughters buy her first firearm. Lots of good things happening late in life. BTW, the G19 was completely her choice. She didn't want to look at anything else. Her choice was good, so who was I to argue. Be sure she trains with it. We have loads of students shoot gen 3 fine, but poor grip leads to cycling issues with gen 4. More examples with glock 19's than glock 17's. Proper grip is almost always the culprit. Tom, please accept our best wishes this Christmas season. | |||

Thanks all and Merry Christmas. I had a CT scan yesterday and the doctor told me today that things are still all on the positive side. Everything is continuing to shrink. So much so, that she is giving me more time, maybe a year and a half to two years longer. Pretty superb. Tom, I have to ask. Since you've done well in buying some time, are there plans for a next phase of treatment? Since the cancer has been knocked down a bit, is surgery now an option? Are there newer non-surgical treatments that they're talking about to follow on the Optivo? There making big strides in immunotherepy. Can you get into some of those studies? Now that you're back is not against the wall as much as it was, is it time to try being a bit aggressive it trying to really get it into remission? | |||
