if you're going to go against the power structure, you better make sure you're clean as the newly driven snow. So don't let your executive loot the organization in a way that gives the power structure an opening to crush you.

At this point, the NRA as a organization needs to be abandoned, and it's popular and industry support, and as much real expertise (meaning not WLP and his cronies) be transferred to a new or other existing organization.

Wasn't Oliver North offered up as a possibility. But he clashed with WLP (which raised his status in my mind.)

General George S. Patton.

Reportedly, not available at this time.

HRK, and HK Ag I agree with you. This is a major victory for the GDC's, castrating the most effective advocate we've ever had for the Second Amendment, the NRA while having rendered the First ineffective already.

We need a path forward.

Then WLP and his cronies on the board of directors shouldn’t have served up the NRA’s bollocks on the proverbial chopping block with their increasingly obvious financial malfeasance. Yes the precedent is bad, yes it hurts all gun owners, but I see the lion’s share of this fiasco as being the fault of the parties mentioned in my first sentence.

I’ll bet that the 2021 NRA convention in Houston this coming September will be a bit tense.

"Fairfax, Virginia—May 11, 2021—In response to today’s dismissal of a prior bankruptcy filing, the National Rifle Association of America (“NRA”) announced that it will continue to fight on all fronts in the interests of its mission and its members.

The New York Attorney General and others had aligned against the NRA in opposition to the NRA’s reorganization plan announced on January 15, 2021. They sought to dismiss the NRA’s bankruptcy filing with prejudice or, in the alternative, appointment of a court-appointed trustee, to take control of the Association’s business and financial affairs. Importantly, a United States Bankruptcy Court in Dallas did not appoint a Trustee or examiner, even as it ruled the Association may not proceed with the chapter 11 case. The court dismissed the bankruptcy filing without prejudice, meaning the NRA does have the option to file a new bankruptcy case.

During a 12-day hearing that occurred over approximately four weeks, the NRA established that it had adopted new policies and accounting controls, displaced many “insiders” who had allegedly abused the Association, and accepted reparations for costs voluntarily determined to be excess benefits. The hearing proceedings focused on the NRA’s compliance efforts, and the organization’s renewed commitment to good governance.

In an opinion, dated May 11, 2021, the Hon. Harlin D. Hale, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge, Northern District of Texas, wrote, “In short, the testimony…suggests that the NRA now understands the importance of compliance. Outside of bankruptcy, the NRA can pay its creditors, continue to fulfill its mission, continue to improve its governance and internal controls, contest dissolution in the NYAG Enforcement Action, and pursue the legal steps necessary to leave New York.”

Underscoring the importance of the proceedings, Judge Hale previously said the NYAG motion contesting the NRA’s Chapter 11 filing was “the most important motion I’ve ever heard as a judge.” "

The article is longer. La Pierre isn't voluntarily stepping down. The NRA convention in September will, indeed, be interesting.

Despite WLP's improprieties, the timing of the lawsuit was 100% political and succeeded in tying up the NRA with legal expenses and preventing almost any political activity during the 2020 election.

You don't dissolve a company or organization because the CEO stole money, you remove the CEO and restore proper governance to save the organization. That is what a judge should decide, if the judge is not a partisan looking for the same result as the AG...

Of course it’s political. The NRA should have had the presence of mind to know that the corrupt power structure in NY probably would eventually have a prosecutorial hard-on for them and consequently run a tight ship that would be very difficult for an inquest to find bad financial dirt on.

Doesn't look like Wayne is going anywhere. Well that's unfortunate.

Nevertheless, I remain 100% behind the NRA and will fight with them against this obvious political hit. We need the NRA even if some if not many here simply shrug his or her shoulders at the very mention of the National Rifle Association. Well kiss my ass. I remain a loud and proud member.

Here's the latest email to members:

Dear NRA Members,

In my more than 40 years with the NRA, we've taken part in some bruising fights to defend our freedoms and our NRA. As they say, nothing worth having comes easy.

Over the past month, we did it again. The NRA took center stage in the fight for our reorganization in federal court in Dallas. Although our case for reorganization was dismissed on May 11, there are many positive developments that bode well for the Association and its plans for the future.

Strong and Secure

First and foremost, the legal decision has no impact on our staffing, programs or Second Amendment advocacy. All of our work continues and remains as vital as ever. We will continue to defend constitutional freedoms, promote firearms education, and advocate for and represent our members in all appropriate forums.

This outcome has no impact on all the divisions and affiliates associated with the NRA. Our programs, political activity, charitable endeavors, and Second Amendment advocacy all continue. We remain strong and secure.

Second, the New York Attorney General and others that aligned against the NRA in opposition to the NRA's reorganization plan were unsuccessful in their effort to derail us. As you may have read, they sought to dismiss the NRA's Chapter 11 reorganization filing with prejudice or, in the alternative, appointment of a court-appointed trustee. They wanted to see someone else take control of the Association's business and financial affairs.

None of that happened. The court in Dallas did not appoint a trustee or impose any other form of oversight on the NRA. Instead, the court dismissed our reorganization filing without prejudice, meaning the NRA has the option to file a new case in the future if the need arises. Importantly, there was no financial watchdog (an examiner) appointed, as sought by some.

The enemies of the Association want to claim the NRA filing was in "bad faith" and the NRA should be assessed penalties. But, that's not what the judge found. On May 14, the judge clarified that he did not hold that the NRA reorganization filing was in "bad faith."

In summary, we are no longer in bankruptcy court in Dallas - and our mission moves forward.

Our leadership team remains intact. Those outcomes are far from the "doom and gloom" predicted by the so-called experts, many in the far-left media, and gun control advocates. Don't believe everything you read in the newspaper: we are not going anywhere. We're fighting as hard as ever in defense of your freedoms.

Our plans are not finalized, but we remain committed to exploring a move of all or part of the NRA's business operations to Texas - home to more than 400,000 NRA members. In fact, the court observed that we could still accomplish those goals outside of bankruptcy court. In other words, our business operations and plans for the future are not affected by these developments.

The Record Reflects: Committed to Good Governance

During a 12-day court hearing that occurred over approximately four weeks, the NRA established that it complies with board policies and accounting controls, displaced "insiders" who abused the Association, and accepted reimbursements for costs voluntarily determined to be excess benefits.

The hearing proceedings focused, in significant measure, on the NRA's compliance efforts and the organization's renewed commitment to good governance.

In an opinion, dated May 11, 2021, the Hon. Harlin D. Hale, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge, Northern District of Texas, wrote, "In short, the testimony…suggests that the NRA now understands the importance of compliance. Outside of bankruptcy, the NRA can pay its creditors, continue to fulfill its mission, continue to improve its governance and internal controls, contest dissolution in the NYAG Enforcement Action, and pursue the legal steps necessary to leave New York."

Of course, very little of this was publicly reported.

As I told the media, the NRA remains committed to its members and our plan for the future. This fight is about our 5 million members - those who stand courageously with the NRA in defense of constitutional freedom.

Let this be clear: we are an organization that remains committed to its course, even as we confront our adversaries in New York and beyond. The NRA will keep fighting, as we've done for 150 years.

Confronting a Political Agenda - and Fighting for Freedom

That means the NRA continues to confront NYAG Letitia James in her attempt to dissolve the NRA.

The NYAG wants to close our doors as part of a lawsuit she filed on August 6, 2020. In summer 2018, then NYAG candidate James called the NRA a "criminal enterprise" and "terrorist organization." Her subsequent pursuit of the NRA has been characterized by many legal experts and constitutional scholars as a gross weaponization of legal and regulatory power. Even the ACLU recognized that.

As several NRA board members noted, the record now establishes that NRA members can have great confidence in this institution and its plans for the future. We will work with members, vendors, and other supporters to continue the fight for freedom. And we will never shrink from the tough and principled stands we take on behalf of our law-abiding 5 million members.

It all comes down to protecting your constitutional freedoms. The NRA has never shied away from those fights. And I promise you, that's a fight we'll always take on.

Wayne LaPierre

Meanwhile, if you're a member, vote in the next NRA elections - and remember who brung us to this shithole.

I fail to see why WLP is allowed any choice whatsoever in the matter. He's toxic at this point and he needs to go. Why can't we the members of the NRA put enough pressure in place to oust this clown and a bunch of the board and "re-imagine" the NRA for the future. The NRA as an organization is essential to 2A protection nationally, so we need to do what is necessary to reform and strengthen it for the future.

Hell, I'll take WLP's job and do it for half what he makes per year. And since I'm usually in jeans and a golf shirt, my tailoring bill will never be an issue. Wink

NRA to defend against NY attorney general in Manhattan, drops own lawsuit
Jonathan Stempel, Reuters, 6/4/2021

The National Rifle Association said on Friday it will defend against New York Attorney General Letitia James' attempt to shut it down in a state court in Manhattan, and has withdrawn its own lawsuit seeking to block her efforts. The NRA made the move after a federal judge on May 11 threw out the gun rights group's January bankruptcy case, which he called an improper effort to avoid James' regulatory oversight and gain an "unfair litigation advantage."

James sued the NRA last August, accusing it of corruption including diversion of millions of dollars to officials like Chief Executive Wayne LaPierre, its leader for three decades. She is also seeking Lapierre's ouster. "Wayne LaPierre and his lieutenants used the NRA as a breeding ground for personal gain and a lavish lifestyle," James aid in a statement. "Our fight for transparency and accountability will continue because no one is above the law."

Founded in 1871 in New York, the NRA had sued James in the state capital of Albany on the same day the attorney general brought her lawsuit. It later filed similar counterclaims in the Manhattan case, accusing James of violating its constitutional free speech rights in a politically motivated "retaliation campaign" because the Democrat disliked what it stood for. Dropping the Albany case "will ensure that the NRA's claims proceed promptly to discovery and a full vindication of its members' rights," NRA lawyer William Brewer said in a statement.

The NRA has been instrumental in thwarting Democratic-backed gun control measures in the U.S. Congress, and making gun rights a core Republican Party policy objective. In dismissing the bankruptcy case after a 12-day trial, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Harlin Hale in Dallas faulted LaPierre for arranging it without telling his board of directors. Hale also warned that another bankruptcy filing could result in the appointment of an outside trustee to run the NRA, while adding that trial testimony suggested the group "now understands the importance of compliance." The case is New York v. The National Rifle Association of America Inc et al, New York State Supreme Court, New York County, No. 541625/2020.

Some compression for space; original text at http://www.yahoo.com/news/nra-...ml?.tsrc=fp_deeplink

Hopefully this means the NRA finds a way out of court that leaves it intact and functional enough to play a more effective role in lobbying and the 2022 election than it has so far. Oddly enough, though, if this whole thing had to happen then right now is probably the best time for it to happen. I'm not sure we've ever seen the pro-2A grassroots this active in the halls of state governments before, and they seem to be staying in touch with their federal congressweasels too.

Russian cybercriminals have hacked the NRA in a ransomware attack and posted stolen records on the Dark Web.

[note: hyperlinks at linked website article]

-------------------------------

Cybercriminals claim to have hacked the NRA

28/10/2021

A notorious Russian cybercriminal group has posted what appear to be National Rifle Association files to the dark web.

The group, known as Grief, posted 13 files to its website Wednesday and claimed to have hacked the NRA. It is threatening to release more of the files if not paid, though it did not publicly state how much.

Like many ransomware gangs, Grief often posts a handful files stolen from a victim in an efforts to spur a ransom payment.

While paying any ransomware hacker is a risk, Grief is particularly tricky. Cybersecurity experts widely believe Grief is a rebranded effort by a group of Russian cybercriminals who previously used the nickname Evil Corp, which is currently under sanctions by the U.S. Treasury Department.

“It’s the same group,” said Allan Liska, a ransomware analyst at the cybersecurity firm Recorded Future.

The NRA didn’t respond when reached for comment. It did, however, post a tweet saying that “does not discuss matters relating to its physical or electronic security,” and that the organization “takes extraordinary measures to protect information regarding its members, donors, and operations.”

Grief, though a criminal group, isn’t known for bluffing when it claims an organization was a victim, said Brett Callow, who tracks ransomware groups at the cybersecurity company Emsisoft.

“I’m not aware of any incidents in which Grief/Evil Corp has attempted to take credit for other operations’ attacks,” Callow said.

Most of the files viewed by NBC News relate to NRA grants. They include blank grant proposal forms, a list of recent grant recipients, an email to a recent grant winner earlier this month, as well as a W-9 form. The leak also includes the minutes from a Sept. 24 NRA teleconference meeting.

Cybercriminals, many of them based in and near Russia, have made ransomware a constant threat in recent years, regularly hacking businesses, schools, police departments and various other institutions. While the White House has taken several steps to improve U.S. defenses, ransomware is still a lucrative criminal enterprise. Last year, it cost nearly $75 billion in damages worldwide, Emsisoft found.

Jen Easterly, the director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, said earlier this month that Russian ransomware hackers have yet to make “any significant, material changes” to their frequent attacks against American businesses.

On Friday, after the FBI reportedly took down one major ransomware group, several others vowed retaliation and to punish the U.S.
