Plowing straight ahead come what may |
Well...this is so "retro" ...but my daughter gave me Andy Weir's The Martian for my birthday back in May (I loved the movie)...I'm just starting it...I know, it's been out forever (in dog years)...BUT 2017 has been THAT kinda year my friends ...I think I will enjoy it!...thank you Val... I just finished "re-reading" Company Aytch by Sam Watkins...one of the best civil war books written IMHO...it's in Public Domain on Amazon and other sites...download it and read it...I am so looking forward to talking to Sam whenever that time arrives (he may have been friends with my great-great grandfather...their paths did cross in Resaca Ga. back in the day...who knows ) ******************************************************** "we've gotta roll with the punches, learn to play all of our hunches Making the best of what ever comes our way Forget that blind ambition and learn to trust your intuition Plowing straight ahead come what may And theres a cowboy in the jungle" Jimmy Buffet

I'm going back & re-reading my old classic novels, like Steinbeck, Hemmingway, Mitchner. Grisham, Baldacci and some of the newer writers are OK , but they're just not the same as Clancy, Ludnum & Higgins, Griffin, etc. ------------------------------------------------ "It's hard to imagine a more stupid or dangerous way of making decisions, than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong." Back to non-fiction. Just started an amazing book about a little known American mission at the end of WWII in Europe to rescue the Royal Lipizzaners from the Nazis (and the advancing Soviets) from a secret farm. "The Perfect Horse" Elizabeth Letts Recall, early in the War, horses were an integral part of Germany's advance into Poland and their annexation of the Sudetenland. The Nazis had ideas of a super horse as well as a super race. ETA: "While most people associate warhorses with WWI, during WWII, the German Army used 2,750,000 horses, double the number in World War I."This message has been edited. Currently re-reading the Rigante Series by David Gemmell. Almost done with the first one, Sword in the Storm. Maybe I'll re-read the Drenai series after that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tomorrow's battle is won during today's practice.

Currently reading "14" by Peter Clines. (Actually, I'm listening to the Audible audiobook.) Not my usual fare, but I'm definitely digging it. https://www.amazon.com/14-Pete...2&sr=8-1&keywords=14

Reading The Big Lie: Exposing the Nazi Roots of the American Left by Dinesh D'Souza. The book is quite germane to the last weekend's happenings. ...let him who has no sword sell his robe and buy one. My kids talked me into reading Harry Potter book 1. Only 200 pages to go. Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice - pull down your pants and slide on the ice. ʘ ͜ʖ ʘ

Never Go Full Retard |
Slowly making my way through a book called The Art of the Deal written by some NYC real estate developer back in the 80s. It strangely parallels how our current President prefers to run things. They don't think it be like it is, but it do.

HUE, 1968 - by Mark Bowden, account from a 50 year perspective. Castle in the Forest - by Norman Mailer, historical fiction of Hitler's ancestry and his first 15 years. This is one creepy book!
