Five Guys is one of my favorite burgers of all time. Smashed beef patty, very juicy, grilled bun, ANYTHING you want on it. It is a must try. Save part for later. I like In-n-Out, just because I can only get it on trips out west. If you are going low carb, they will even wrap it in lettuce instead of putting in on a bun.

I like Five Guys but hate how soggy the bun gets. It practically disintegrates before you can finish the burger. This is the main reason I prefer In-n-Out. I like them for the most part, but find the buns kind of gummy. Anyone else notice this? They are getting pretty expensive too and around here a double with fries and drink will run you around $15 now.

Personally I think they were a lot better when they were just a small local chain in Virginia. Scaling up to the extent they have seems to have diminished their quality. I have my own style of humor. I call it Snarkasm.

They kill you on the drinks, over $2. Went in with my grandson about 3-4 years ago. I ordered a hot dog and a regular drink. Mine was over $7. Costco dogs are a lot cheaper and just as good.

Reading the responses, 5 Guys seems to be hit or miss. I've been to the local one and another one. Both misses. Overpriced and unmemorable. Not at all worth a third try. On the other hand, we purchased our 5th wheel in Texas. I took my 10 years old at the time son with me to pick it up. Neither of us had ever been to Texas and the first place we stopped when we got there was a Whataburger. The best fast food burger I've ever had. My son agreed. We had a chance to eat at a Whataburger in the Florida Panhandle when we returned home after evacuating to Mobile for Hurricane Irma. The whole family approves of Whataburger burgers. The fries are ok though.

Get the fries and ask for the seasoning on the side. They put in a plastic cup with a lid. Use a little on your fries and take the rest home to season your hash brown breakfast potatoes! ___________________________ "I Get It Now" Beth Greene

If I'm going to spend $14.00 it'll be in a real sit down restaurant, not some stinky fast food joint.

I am from Texas and there was a time that I wanted Whataburger first thing upon returning from any extended travel. We still eat it from time to time and would choose it over any other traditional fast food/drive through burger. With that said, I guess my taste has changed. I find the burgers to be way too salty these days. If Whataburger and 5 Guys were side by side I would choose the 5 Guys burger. There are several I would chose over 5 Guys though.... ______________________________ “I'd like to know why well-educated idiots keep apologizing for lazy and complaining people who think the world owes them a living.” ― John Wayne

If I'm going to a sit down restaurant I'm not going anywhere it's only $14 per person, probably pretty gross food for that price. I stopped at Denny's yesterday got a breakfast with water and extra slice of toast. $16.50. You must live in the cheapest state in the Union to get a quality sit down meal for $14 after tipping. As long as there is Chick-Fil-A, there is no need to enter Five Guys. ---------------------------------------------------- Dances with Crabgrass

In isolation, I like 5 Guys burgers. I like the free peanuts. I like the thick shakes (actually too thick). I don’t like the double burger that just falls apart. I prefer a larger patty. In these parts, I will choose them over any other fast food place except CFA. But they are expensive. "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." Burger buns need to be toasted, if you're not doing that, you're skipping the details in making a quality burger.

If you are severely constipated or are scheduled for a colonoscopy in the next two days, eat at Five Guys. The only place ever to cause me to have worse diarrhea is Chipolate. Nice is overrated "It's every freedom-loving individual's duty to lie to the government." Airsoftguy, June 29, 2018

I have not eaten at Five Guys yet though their prices keeps me away. Friend ate there with the wife and 3 year old, they spent $32. He said the food was average and for $32, they wouldn't be going back. I've had Fuddruckers, Smashburger, Steak and Shake and some of the other chain places. Fuddruckers makes a pretty good burger. Smashburger was absolutely overpriced. Steak and Shake is what it is so don't expect too much. One of the best restaurant burgers I've had was at BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse, believe it or not. Their pizza sucks but their burgers are pretty good. Culver's actually makes a decent burger, too. Love their mushroom swiss burger.
It seems like Californians love it, though. I've eaten there a couple of times and it was absolutely over hyped. It wasn't a "bad" burger, like you said, it was quite mediocre but the hype surrounding it and the expectations that came with the hype led to a huge let down for me. Ate there once and it was blah. Tried it again to make sure I didn't catch them on a bad day and sure enough, it was still blah. Place was packed, though. _____________

Old, Slow, but Lucky! |
I've eaten Five Guys food twice since they opened here in Spokane. The greasiest burger I've ever had, ditto for the fries. We don't have the benefit of In 'n Out or Whattaburger, but I've consumed excellent food at both places when forced to go back to my home state of CA. Here locally, we have a little family owned joint called the Thrifty Scotsman, and their Super Baconburger blows all of the above into the weeds, for about half the price. It's only 3/4 mile away, too! Don _______________________ Living the Dream... One Day at a Time.

I think their burgers taste pretty good. The meat seems like good quality. They use 80/20 ground chuck. They are not overly seasoned which I happen to like for burger patties. I like the fact that there are a lot of choices for toppings. The buns are nothing special. They are overpriced though. My son and I stopped by recently since it was convenient. I ordered the Little Cheeseburger, which is a standard sized, single-patty burger. I'd guess the patty is just over 1/4 pound. My son ordered a Little Bacon Cheeseburger. We each ordered a regular soft drink, which is the smallest size. No fries for either of us. It was $18. That's a little steep for what we got. 十人十色

Just used my microwave grill to make a 1/2lb. burger. Better than anything I've ever had in a restaurant, sit down or fast food.
