This is a good explaination about some of the hijinks by social media to limit and decry what we see.

You have to do it right. There's a Chrome extension you can load that will go through your activity log (I think it is) and delete everything. Trick is to do it several times over about three days.

I did that. Came back four months later and everything was still gone.

A lot of the guys here are old enough not to have to deal with this, but it's getting to the point that if you apply for a job, and don't have a social network history, it's going to be look suspicious. Of course, having a history that shows traits that a prospective employer doesn't like can also cost you a job.

Depends on the job. My professional social network consists of my educational credentials, professional references & associations. Having a social media presence doesn’t count for jack shit against those. LinkedIn might provide some greater visibility to be initially located by a prospective employer but that doesn’t mean evaluated. I’ve found human resource personnel in general to be dolts and one can’t rely on their competence to select the best candidates most of the time, but that’s another topic.

The most irritating part is that I still don’t know what got me banned. Unlike my last ban FB messenger still works. It’s weird, it didn’t boot me immediately like it did the last three times. I didn’t get the wonderful “session expired” pop up.

Fucking stupid platform.

I have been off fb about 5 years. I occaisionally get the urge to join back up. It’s easy enough, all you have to do is type in your old name and password and poof, there you still are. I log onto my wife’s account, instead, which shows page after page of socialist tripe, idiocy, PC culture, lame brain leftists, and people who seem to be too stupid to exist. For me, that is enough. I shut the site down and move on. There is so much mental fail on that site that it makes me fear for the future of America. Will we be invaded? Overthrown from within? I’m not sure which, there is no doubt it will happen.

This forum and a few others are the closest I've ever gotten to any social media. I thought that someday I might be the only person in North America without a Facebook account.

I just did the permanent delete which goes into effect after 30 days. Apparently there is no way to just delete it all right now. I guess I could delete every post manually but that would take a long damn time.

You need Chrome and Social Book Post Manager

Then, as I wrote, you have to run it multiple times, over two-three days. I kept turning the processing rate down as it found fewer and fewer things to delete. Then I went back once-a-day for two or three days and re-ran it to make sure it'd come up empty.

Then I "parked" my account, logged out and did not return for four months.

What I did before I quit was to remove all of my content then I changed all of my settings so only I could see them. Then I waited a few day to make sure my settings were in place. After that I deleted my account. I just checked my name and nothing comes up. I delete my account fall of 2016

I started with FB so I could look at the local buy, sell trade pages. Then got in touch with a couple Marine Corps brothers, got a few friends, if I don't know you, you are not on my friends list. A lot of guys I work with, and myself, use it for good natured ribbing and fun. I don't take anything serious, don't post my beliefs, it's all what you make of it....

I joined FB when my now 31 year old daughter got on it as a kid, just to monitor her. She blocked me, so I never went back.

About 4 months back I got a bunch of email notifications consoling me over what I do not know.

Turns out some jackwad had broken into my account and was posing as me.

I deactivated it forthwith.

A few days ago, it appears someone was again fucking with it, so I deleted it entirely.

Just say Bye Felicia. They were making money off you and the company is a leftist company. Be done with it. No 2A self respecting person should be using the piece of shit. They sell off all your data to the highest bidder so that makes them the pimp and you the whore.

FB was the only social media I ever used. I primarily used it to keep in thouch with old friends from HS and out of state family, but it gradually got taken over with work drama and obnoxious suggested feeds from FB so last year I decided I had enough and dumped it.

It was scary how much time I wasted on there... getting rid of it was one of the best moves I've made. Now I have more time to waste on sigforum Big Grin.
