so I am in need of a hammer drill to get through the adobe block in my house so I head out, a spring in my step thinking how hard can this be... Craftsman - made in China DeWalt - made in China Milwaukee - made in China ok, so to be fair, the Milwaukee and the DeWalt both have nice big red/white/blue US flag on the packaging. but wait, if you read the fine print, it says that the plastic case is made in China and the tool itself is made in China. Apparently the only thing made in USA is the cardboard sleeve that you throw away after you buy the drill. looked at another drill, didn't specifically say it was made in China but it said that 'all parts globally sourced' yeah... well, crap

I can't remember the product right now, but I clearly remember an email exchange with the seller. I asked where it was made and was told that the item was "imported." I asked several times for the specific country of origin and they did the broken record thing: "imported" "imported" "imported" הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

We in OKC had a local Mom-N-Pop store named American Made Products. 100% American made products, absolutely nothing imported. I really enjoyed going in and buying things to help support them. Their website is still up. They closed the door a couple of months ago. Just couldn't make it financially. This is sad. Really sad. .

How tough is adobe block? Hammer drills can be ok for light tasks, but deeper or larger holes, particularly in tougher material, demand a rotary hammer. I bought a Bosch 11255VSR SDS-plus Bulldog Xtreme rotary hammer for the Man Cave Project, as I had many 3/16 in. holes I had to drill into the poured concrete walls of our basement. Where hammer drills have often run into grief trying to drill holes in those walls, that Bosch rotary hammer was like a hot knife through butter. When my well guy came to install our new VFD well pump, went to mount the drive on the basement wall, and hauled out his hammer drill, I volunteered to let him use my rotary hammer. "Nah, I won't need it," he confidently replied. I just smiled and replied "Ok, have at it." He was ok for three of the four holes. After trying forever-in-a-day to drill that fourth hole he asked for my rotary hammer. It completed the job effortlessly. It's my understanding Bosch SDS rotary hammers are still made in Germany. To all of you who are serving or have served our country, Thank You |
Heck even back in 1998 - 2005 when I was buying a lot of power tools made in USA power tools were getting rare. After economy tanked in 2008 just about all I could do is bow my head in shame pick the tool with good reviews and move on. Just about every power tool made in the last 15 - 20 years is made in china and or globally sourced parts.

A lot of what I've been seeing is products made in the USA, but if you read further, it will state that they are sourced from global materials. So basically chicom shit assembled here. The water in Washington won't clear up until we get the pigs out of the creek~Senator John Kennedy

Got to walk before you can run. Do the best you can to not buy Chicom. This mess didn’t happen overnight. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

Is this a one-time job? Would renting a hammer drill be an option for you? Renting one that's already been purchased helps your local rental shop and doesn't fund the [non-US] tool manufacturer. God bless America.

But that still means at least people in the US have a job. It's not like everything you need can be made in the US today. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Chinese mfg has progressed. It no longer means cheap crap. Same as Japan in the 60's. Milwaukie use to wind all of their own motors in the US, which made them top performers. No more. Best to all:
