Yes, it's still "a thing". Roughly 88% of nationwide K-12 students are in public school. Only about 9% are in private school, with the remaining 3% homeschooled. In your home state of Colorado specifically, the percentage of public school students is even higher at about 92%, with around 7% in private schools and 1% homeschooled.

Proportion of U.S. Students in Private Schools is 10 Percent and Declining One in 10 U.S. students in grades preK-12 attends a private school, according to the most recent data from the U.S. Department of Education. Surprised it’s not a higher share? Perhaps even more surprisingly, the private school share of total enrollments has decreased over the past 15 years, from about 12 percent to 10 percent. This trend seems unlikely to reverse. The U.S. Department of Education projects that in 2021, private schools will enroll about 9 percent of preK-12 students, while public schools will enroll 91 percent. https://www.huffingtonpost.com...dents_b_2950948.html "Some things are apparent. I believe that is due to a couple factors. 1. Cost 2. Private schools haven't kept pace with population growth. 3. See number 1 __________________________________ NRA Benefactor I lost all my weapons in a boating, umm, accident. http://www.aufamily.com/forums/

I cant wait until jr is ready for school. I'm still shopping for a good private school. The only good thing I've seen from public school were the kids in the shop class. Everyone else was about their feelings. And that was when I went. Used guns deserve a home too

The annual cost/student is actually lower in private schools than in public K-12 schools.... particularly grade schools, or K-8 The problem is that we require parents to double pay if they choose a private/parochial school. Public policy encourages more and more people to go to public schools. "Some things are apparent. The guy behind the guy |
this is exactly why I send my kids to a private school. It's expensive, but I think it's worth it. My family wasn't rich growing up and my parents went without a lot of things to pay for my sister and I to go to a private school. Today, it's even more important IMO. It's not about the education to me. I don't really care about that. I send them to a Catholic school so that Religion is part of their schooling. I also prefer private schools because trouble makers get kicked out and because there is none of this liberal BS there. As public schools continue to fail, I bet homeschooling becomes more popular. If I didn't have the means to pay for a private school, I'd be trying to get neighbors together and home school in our own kind of private, small "school."

Not isolated in the least. I see it every day and more on my bus. I'm a sub driver, so I'm at every elementary, middle and high school in the county. Some are better than others, and the better ones having more, read that again MORE discipline and not putting up with the B.S., still the better Administrations are hampered by district P.C. policy. Which is better than most school districts. I run into a lot of discipline problems on the bus because the regular route drivers just give up, because the school administration and parents don't surport them. That's why we, or most school districts can't hire or keep drivers. They just get tired of it. Talking about kids can't write cursive, hell most can't print, most looking like drunk chickens wrote it in the dark with sunglasses on. I could go on and on, but it would be repetitious and boring. It's stuff most know already. ARman

I still say, a few dozen Catholic Nuns with 18" rulers would easily restore order in Public schools with student discipline issues. ********* "Some people are alive today because it's against the law to kill them".

Funny... but as I'm sure you know... that's the point. Public schools can't do that. In fact, the discipline isn't as strict in Catholic schools as it used to be either. I had nuns... but the nuns are dying off. Even in Catholic schools, there are few nuns today and the PC crap is creeping in through the textbook writers. "Some things are apparent. Sorry Para, I should have taken more time to post my thoughts. I was typing fast and didn't mean to sound so snarky. My apologies. My wife and I have actually saved a lot of money home schooling my kids. My kids' online curriculum runs us about $30 per year and other out of pocket expenses are few and far between. All a parent really needs is about an hour and a half per day and an internet connection. The curriculum is amazing and is really pushing my daughter harder and with more success than she ever had in public school. I have been reading about a mass exodus to this type of program from public education lately which was why I clumsily asked if anyone still went there.

The answer is Yes... 90%. That's not exactly a mass exodus. However, I applaud you for your efforts with your own kids. "Some things are apparent. Thank you. Enrollment numbers for home schooling is tricky. The school district still tries to make you register at your local public school so that your kid will be eligible for the yearly state testing. I've heard from several members of their staff that my kid will then be counted as a student there so the school doesn't loose funding. So how they are figuring out how many kids go where is a mystery to me.

Chemistry teacher would fill a balloon full of hydrogen, tied to a string, light a match taped to a yardstick and hold it up to the balloon. we all loved it!!

I remember chemistry class in 6th grade. They brought out the nitric acid to play with. If you got any on your skin it'd burn like hell and you had to run it under water for 10 minutes. Everyone sooner or later ended up with something under the faucet and nobody had mommy start trouble over it. Hey, learnin can be dangerous work!

Beleive it or not, public school is a valid option for those who choose to stay involved in their kids lives. Honestly mine learn a lot from talking about the stupidity that goes on sometimes - adversity builds strength sometimes. Or maybe my well adjusted, honor roll with a full ride scholarship for a pre-Med degree student is my superior genetics and not our parenting style / school choices? Bahahahahahah!!!!

Yes... on an individual basis... public school is a valid option for those who choose to stay involved in their kids lives. I'm sure you are doing a fine job with your kid and as you said, staying involved is key. I'm not trying to shame anyone or say it can't work for individual kids. Each parent has to decide what is best for their kids. What I am saying is this: We would be better off as a society and as a country if we didn't rely on socialism. And public education is socialism... and it breeds more socialism because there is a great deal of indoctrination toward a government solution to every problem. "Some things are apparent. In my Public High school, we had Print shop, Machine shop, Carpenter shop and Electric shop. I took Electric Shop and learned very quickly to respect electricity. ********* "Some people are alive today because it's against the law to kill them".
