Recently came across a vintage pair of Klipschhorns and matching Mac amp in a customers GARAGE! What lust that inspired in my heart and took me back to my freshman year in college. A couple floors below me in the dorm I lived in were 2 audio nuts who had a pair of 'horns in their room and a rack full of gear to run them. I have wanted a pair since then.

K-horns, to me, are about as in reach as a ‘68 Yenko. But I’d still love to hear feel (thanks again stoic) Led Zeppelin I played all night through them!

This would push you over the 2K but is a one stop shop trip. Cambridge Audio makes a couple of integrated amps with 150 W and WIFI and bluetooth. You might take a look. Very clean and any Cambridge gear I have owned or heard would do justice to the big speakers. I am running an older CD player from them into my Khorns and center Belle Klipsch through Perreaux pre and power..

Wife said those don’t sound like $13,000 speakers which was really funny because she’s never heard speakers anywhere near that price range, but also because she was absolutely correct. I’ve got sound bars and Bluetooth speakers that sound better.

Short version: something with one of the bass cabinets came wired out of phase from the factory. I call tomorrow to see how they want to fix it.

Long version: I spent a couple hours troubleshooting. Factory reset the receiver, made sure all the settings there were right. Used the Pure Direct button to bypass all the receiver’s internal processing. Hooked up the SACD player as a source. Moved the Fortés to the new house, set them up right next to the K-horns, and they blew the K-horns away even with the lousy room acoustics from not having furniture, rugs, curtains, etc. I had already verified the K-horns were wired correctly externally and to the receiver. For shits and giggles, I reversed the jumpers, hooked black to red and red to black on one set of binding posts, between the bass cab and mid/tweet cab on one of the speakers; lo and behold I found the missing bass! They sound better than the 40 year old beater Fortés now.

I’m still looking at amps, preamps, DACs, etc. Whatever is exposed has to fit on the 6” high shelf of the electric fireplace thing. It wouldn’t be particularly convenient, but the electric fireplace thing is a 4” thick insert, so there’s a ton of space behind it I could hide an amp in. I’d have to set up some fans up for ventilation.

I hate to be a broken record, but please give the previously mentioned WiiM that does everything you want for about $550 on Amazon a try.

I have the WiiM in my reference system with $15K speakers and over $10K in Benchmark electronics… i cannot recommend it more highly!

I'm so happy I'm a simple man. My $3k system to me sounds better than a theater setup.

Hopefully it's a few tweaks and you are back in business! I'm sure it will all be resolved soon.

Ok…

KEF R3

So, just over $2500 for a top tier system with full online streaming music capability… you can add vinyl and CD-SACD if you care to do so.

Welcome back! The system above will compare favorably with those costing up to ten times as much!

I’m sorry, I’m not ignoring anyone’s advice and have read and do appreciate everyone’s advice. I will absolutely be getting one of the Wiim for streaming if not for the DAC as well. Probably one with a built in amp. I tried the Eversolo Play which is similar to the Wiim Ultra, but the built in amp didn’t sound as good with the Fortés as the amps in the two Pioneer receivers tried.

We’re not moving in until the bathrooms are done, so I have some time and figured I’d wait for Black Friday sales.

Congrats finding these, can’t imagine how they sound but i’m fond of old large apeakers.

My question is, aren’t your speakers at the right distance from surrounding walls?

Sure this is not your first rodeo but the pics left me wondering…

If you’re comfortable with it, can you tell how much you paid for the KHs? Thank you.

PS: I also have a Wiim Pro and am very pleased with it. Bought it so i could stream music from my NAS (living room) to my man cave Yamaha AVR.

I just got one of these little bulldog pugs:

10" extremely long throw in a sealed cast aluminum cannon housing. 850 watts RMS Class D internal amp.

Now I'm going to have to get another and do a twin sub setup.

The speakers are the Klipsch AK6 Klipschorns. The earlier versions are meant to be tight in the corners as the walls complete the bass horn. This version has a partially enclosed back and doesn’t need to be tight in the corners, but they still need to be in the corners. The room needs proper corners as well. I paid $13,000 USD.

We don’t have internet service yet. The house has coax and Cat5e, but I have yet to sort out what goes where and what new runs I’m going to need.

I am fond of Paradigm, all of my theater has Studio Reference speakers.
Front three are Studio Reference 100

I also have three of these

Low Frequency DIN 12hz
Power 3,400 watts Dynamic Peak / 1,700 watts RMS

My Rogers LS3/5A’s are still in storage, waiting until we have a house where the little grandkids can be excluded from a listening room.

I think it’s cool that people on eBay want $3,000 a pair.

trapper, i’m impressed.

Wish my hearing was worth that money but it isn’t and i don’t have the proper room either.
Hope you find the right hardware to make the most of it and the Acoustics Gods smile upon you.

I acquired the taste for Ess Amt speakers while in my mid teens and haven’t been able to shake it.

What are your tastes in music?

Thank you for sharing.
