Shall Not Be Infringed |
Without the 2A and Gadsen Emblems, it's likely you wouldn't even get asked ANY of those questions! They surely ask if you had any firearms, but that's it. And, absolutely NO way I'd have those on my motorhome either! That just invites the wrong type of attention from far too many that you'd rather not engage with. Plus Motorhomes/RVs are just WAY too easy to break into to risk the damage/loss/hassle anyway, regardless of whether you've got firearms with you. I made the decision a long time ago to just simply not leave this country. I've turned down many a good fishing trip by not going to Canada. Wife goes to Mexico every year with her girlfriends even after I tell her all the bad shit that could rain down on her and her friends. She came back last time and said she's not going back for awhile. I asked why but she just said I don't know just not going back for awhile. I'm sure something happened to her or one of her friends that scared them into reality. Whatever it was I'm not going to press and just be glad they are not returning. I'll keep my money in the states. International travel is just a hassle I don't need. "Fixed fortifications are monuments to mans stupidity" - George S. Patton

I agree, the emblems on the grill are going to bring unwanted attention; best to keep them in your heart/mind so to speak and not on your vehicle. As for visiting Canada; totally NO WAY!

Exactly. They have no way to verify. You don't have to be a jerk, snarky or uncooperative. Just give reasonable answers without giving away any personal info.

Probably would have gotten waved through if you had a Maple Leafs decal! Place your clothes and weapons where you can find them in the dark. “If in winning a race, you lose the respect of your fellow competitors, then you have won nothing” - Paul Elvstrom "The Great Dane" 1928 - 2016

I love northern Ontario. I've spent a large number of days camping, fishing and visiting the friends we met over the years. That said, I haven't been up in probably 20 years. No passport, no Enhanced Drivers License. In fact dn't have a Real ID one and won't. Yup, their country, their rules. I'll keep my money on this side of the border. __________________________ Writing the next chapter that I've been looking forward to.

For real? |
Q: How many guns do you own? A: Enough to arm Canada. lol Headed there next month. This will be the first year I go there with FOP plates. I will probably get questioned. But the week before, I know I will need to do a thorough search and remove any gun related items (like ammo). I usually stop in Buffalo with a safe and leave my carry gun at my cousin's house before crossing the border. Not minority enough!

This. I'm not obligated in any way to provide any information about what I own. "No, guns scare me" has been sufficient the few times I've been asked in any official capacity. I maintain the OP invited this kind of scrutiny and I would not have, and again, it's about how you answer. I'm bristling at these questions here, but if asked, I would happily lie my ass off to a Canadian border cop, and in a way where he'd come away thinking I was glad he asked. "Nope, never owned a gun. I'm glad only the RCMP get to have them here, I feel safer that way." Look, my father was Border Patrol and then DOJ working undercover shit with the RCMP. That's why we lived there, I know better than to mouth off to a border guard, but I also know better than to invite any kind of scrutiny whatsoever. "Any guns or knives in the car?" gets met with a laugh and an "absolutely not!" It's been more than fine so far, but I'm sure as shit not going to have a conversation with them about what guns I own. You have to be kidding me. What else do you guys want to tell me about international border crossings with our friendly neighbors to the north that I don't have the first clue about? I'm sure everything I knew prior to ten years ago has gone out the window. ______________________________________________ “There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty Himself hates with you, too.”

Told cops where to go for over 29 years… |
At which point they would already know you were denied entry and then have even higher likely hood of enhanced inspection. I forgot to take my “Happiness is a Glock in the Tank Bag” license plate frame off once before heading into Canada, wasted an extra 10 minutes watching an attractive lady CBP person go through my stuff. Not a big deal. What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

Too many places in the good ole USA I've never seen. About 25 years ago crossed over at Niagra Falls for an afternoon, Meh. I bought some Cuban cigars for a friend of mine.

Wow. The last time I "visited" Canada I was stationed onboard a US Navy Warship. We didn't have any inspections or other BS. I guess as we were invited, we (US Navy) was given a green light and thus no BS customs "interrogation" er.. ah ..inspections. We did have an armed guard on our Quarterdeck. And onboard a US Navy vessel is US property. Same-same when in any foreign port. I doubt that I'll be visiting Canada anyway. Cheers, Doug in Colorado NRA Endowment Life Member

I would take issue with that. Personal information of private citizens from another country? As far as I’m concerned every citizen should be able to find out exactly what information they are privy to and what types of information would not be legal for a foreign government to access.

Meh, the Canuck is just jealous of your collection. No harm in any of this information, it's just irks them because they have no freedom.

I wonder how "I brought none of them" would suffice as an answer. I read an article long ago about a successful vintage motorcycle road racer from Canada who race a lot in America. His response when asked about border crossings and what to tell border agents: "anything but the truth"
