Mark Carney Will Be Canada’s Next Prime Minister After Winning Liberal Leadership Race Login/Join

Mark Carney has won the Liberal leadership race, and will soon become Canada’s next prime minister once Justin Trudeau steps down from the role.

Carney, a former central banker, won the leadership race on March 9 on the first ballot with 85.9 percent of the nearly 152,000 votes.

Coming in second was former Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland with 8 percent of the votes, followed by former cabinet minister Karina Gould with 3.2 percent of the votes and former Liberal MP Frank Baylis with 3 percent.

Trudeau announced his plan to resign on Jan. 6, saying he would step down once a new leader has been selected by the party.

He said last week that the exact date he would leave the top role will be decided between him and the new leader.
2025 Election

The next federal election must take place by October. Opposition parties have said they intend to vote non-confidence in the minority Liberal government to trigger an election sooner.
Carney said on the campaign trail that he may call an early election to get a “strong mandate.”
The House of Commons is currently suspended until March 24, after Trudeau asked the governor general to prorogue Parliament on Jan. 6, the same day he announced his plan to resign and initiate a Liberal leadership race to find his replacement.

Once Carney becomes prime minister, it will end Trudeau’s nine-plus years of heading the federal government.

Trudeau took the Liberals from third place to a majority government in 2015, and won two subsequent elections in 2019 and 2021, although his government was reduced to a minority.

He announced his resignation in January following widespread public calls from within caucus amid declining poll numbers and a weak showing for the Liberals in byelections.
Carney

Carney will become a prime minister who doesn’t currently hold a seat in the legislature, a rare occurrence. In 1984, Liberal Prime Minister John Turner also took the top job after winning the Liberal leadership race following the resignation of Pierre Trudeau, without holding a seat in the legislature at the time.
Even more unusual, Carney will be the first prime minister who has never held an elected public role in Canada’s history.

Carney served as the governor of the Bank of Canada from 2008 to 2013, after which he became the governor of the Bank of England until 2020.

He became active in the private sector after leaving his roles with central banks, serving on a number of boards and holding executive roles in financial companies. As well, he became the U.N. Special Envoy on Climate Action and Finance. Carney said he resigned from all these roles in January when he launched his leadership bid.

Carney has said he'll have a focus on the economy as prime minister, and said he plans to cut taxes for the middle class and reduce government spending.

One of Carney’s major focuses is climate change policies. He has said he‘ll remove the unpopular consumer-facing carbon tax and replace it with an incentive model, and that he’ll put the costs for emissions on major businesses.

He has also said he'll work to remove interprovincial trade barriers and respond to U.S. tariffs dollar-for-dollar, while working to diversify Canada’s export markets.

Carney, who holds British and Irish citizenship, has said he has begun the process of renouncing both citizenships.

Carney informally advised the Canadian government on the economic response during the pandemic, and was formally named as an economic advisor to the Liberal Party in September 2024.

The son of teachers, Carney was born in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, and grew up in Edmonton. He holds a doctorate in economics from Oxford and received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard.

If the current government calls an election as early as mid April. The next scheduled election is October of this year. The constitution would allow one as late as October of next year. Canadians want it as soon as possible but it can’t be forced.

Yes, he can. A much bigger WEF stooge than Justinian and vows to be even more confrontational with Trump.

Yes. Carney is smarter and sharper than Trudeau. He's a long-time WEF executive with deep ties to global financial figures and has a deep affinity to the green movement. The best part of Carney is he's never run for elected office, all his government time has been in appointed positions so, he's got his work cut out for him.

Wrong election, this is simply the Liberals replacing Castroeau with a new party leader. National elections where Poilievre will be the Conservative opponent is later in the year.

This ain't gonna help him in the election later this year. Trump won't let him get any wins.

He’s a temp PM until a budget is submitted and voted on. It will likely fail to pass which forces the election. They will stall the vote for as long as possible but election campaigns in Canada usually last 60 to 90 days.

Now that Castreau boy has been replace, I guess we’ll see what happens next. The next Canadian Election had to be held sometime before October 2025.

And the Australian General Election is to be held before the middle of May too.

Not looking too good for the Leftists in either country.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has called a snap election for April 28 - saying he needed a strong mandate to deal with the threat that Donald Trump 's tariffs pose to the economy.

It was a shrewd move...

Polls suggest the Liberals, who have been in power since 2015 and badly trailed the official opposition Conservatives at the start of the year, are now slightly ahead of their rivals.

'We moved from an election where people wanted change to an election that's really much more about leadership,' said Darrell Bricker, CEO of Ipsos Public Affairs.

'The ability of the Conservatives to attack the Liberals has been greatly diminished, because people are focused on the here and now and the near term future, not on what happened over the last 10 years,' he said by phone.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Canada's NEW Prime Minister Mark Carney announces April 28 election, seeks mandate to 'deal with' Trump

https://justthenews.com/world/..._campaign=newsletter

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced on Sunday that a federal election will take place next month as he seeks a "positive mandate to deal with President Trump" on trade and other issues.

Carney met with Governor-General Mary Simon earlier on Sunday and made a request for Parliament to be dissolved.

Carney will run against Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre on April 28.

“I’m asking Canadians for a strong, positive mandate to deal with President Trump and to build a new Canadian economy that works for everyone because I know we need change, big change, positive change,” Carney said on Sunday.

Poilievre said he would ensure the “independence and sovereignty of Canada” is recognized in negotiations with Trump on matters like trade.

“I will strengthen our country so that we can be capable of standing on our own two feet and standing up to the Americans where and when necessary,” he said on Sunday.

Sad part is, leftists there, just like leftists here, buy this bullshit.

If he is elected, NOTHING will change. He will continue along the same commie path as Castreau. But, he'll get a shit ton of votes, you can count on that.

Mark Carney declares he is both Catholic and ‘absolutely’ pro-abortion

https://www.lifesitenews.com/b...-24&utm_medium=email

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has made few public statements about abortion, but many public statements about being Catholic. Thus, there were feeble hopes that Carney might repeal Justin Trudeau’s infamous 2015 declaration that no pro-lifer can run for the Liberal Party of Canada.

The only public statement on abortion that I have been able to find from Carney until now is his post on X the day Roe v. Wade was overturned on June 24, 2022.

“I’m proud to live in a country where a woman’s right to choose is so strongly supported. But the devastating decision today in the U.S. is a clear reminder that progress should never be taken for granted,” he wrote. “Our commitment to protecting fundamental rights must be unwavering.”

It was a clear indication that Carney is pro-abortion, and that his alleged Catholicism is secondary to his commitment to feticide. Keep in mind that Canada is the only democracy and one of the only countries in the world (we keep company with North Korea) where abortion is permitted up until birth, for any reason and for no reason at all, funded by the Canadian taxpayers. No other Western country permits, funds, and facilitates barbaric late-term abortions with such enthusiasm.

Yesterday, however, Carney informed the press that he is both pro-abortion, and a practicing Catholic.

“Prime Minister Carney, you are a practicing Catholic. You attended church before you visited the Governor General this morning. Do you explicitly support a woman’s right to choose, and how will your faith impact your policy deliberations should you win this election?” a journalist asked him during his first press scrum.

Carney could hardly wait for her to finish, saying “absolutely” before letting her complete the question. “Thank you for the question,” he responded, beaming at her. “I wouldn’t have drawn attention to the fact that I went to church, but thank you for noting it. I absolutely support a woman’s right to choose, unreservedly, and I will defend it as the Liberal Party has defended it: proudly and consistently.”

This, you’ll note, is not the slick “personally pro-life but politically pro-choice” tactic. No, Carney supports Canada’s abortion-until-birth regime “absolutely,” “unreservedly,” and “proudly.” Continuing, he said:

I don’t speak about these matters. I think what’s relevant – when I say matters, I mean my personal faith, my spirituality – but I’ll say what’s relevant is that it informs my sense of responsibility and service. I feel that I should serve our country the best I can, and if I go back to my journey to standing in front of you here, I did feel, at the turn of the year, as the crisis bore down on us and the need for big change, that I should put my hand up and be part of that change.

I’m humbled that I was chosen as leader of the Liberal Party. I am privileged that I have had this short time in government. We have made major changes to put Canada in a stronger position, but much more needs to be done, and that’s why I’m standing here in front of you, and have asked, and the Governor General has agreed, to have this election, so that we can make positive change that brings this country together and build an economy that works for everyone.

The long answer was delivered with Carney’s already signature stumbling, rambling delivery, punctuated by “ums” and “ahs” – but he did not hesitate to support his predecessor’s abortion policies. Carney was prepared for the question, and keen observers will notice that he pivoted from emphasizing that his faith does not impact his position on abortion, but did influence him to run for Liberal leadership to save Canada from the “crisis” he saw unfolding. This is the progressive version of Trump stating that God saved his life so he could save America, although nobody will point that out.

Carney should be asked why he supports the “right” to dismember a nearly full-term pre-born child who can feel excruciating pain in the womb – but I suspect he won’t be.
