Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

I think the principle behind what mbinky posted is true, cliché or not. What we are seeing is the true nature of progressivism; one benign step at a time into oppression. I'm not about to ignore what I see because of a cliché.

That's how most everything happens, you know, garden variety incrementalism.

It's an effective strategy and a natural progression for all manner of things, good and bad.

It, in and of itself, means nothing special.

For example: They are now going after that infamous hater, Christopher Columbus. Anybody think that is where they will stop? Or will there be a next?

A BLM organizer has begun floating the idea that whites should give up their homes to blacks and browns. Is it conceivable-- imaginable-- that white homes could be targeted for protest demonstrations, maybe even attacked? How about the homes of decendents of slave owning families?

mbinky's post is about incrementalism, and-- cliche or not-- it is a well known leftist tactic.

They should probably consider all the ramifications before they actually try that shit.

I suspect it will end very badly for them.

Cliches are cliches because they are so often true.

There is absolutely no evidence that the Left will ever stop even if you give them everything they want. They will just want more.

So what's next with this civil war statues / monument desecration movement?

Will they move to union states and start removing their civil war monuments too, since they too point out the evil slave past?

What's next? Bulldoze confederate civil war cemeteries and build public housing there for BLM members?

I tell you, someone is either putting something in the air or water affecting all these loons.

It only stands to reason that where there's sacrifice, there's someone collecting the sacrificial offerings. Where there's service, there is someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice is speaking of slaves and masters, and intends to be the master.

Perhaps it is as improbable as who is paying for this mayhem ?

Who would have an interest in seeing our nation decimated ?

Look at gun control, or healthcare if you would like an example. Even with a super majority, BHO knew that he could not pass single payer if he tried. He knew that he couldn't have totally banned guns if he tried. So, put incremental mechanisms in place to win over the long haul. We all know that Obamacare was never supposed to work, it was a conduit to move toward single payer. If he'd tried to run single payer, and doubled down on it, he'd have not had any support within his own party except from places like CA, IL, CT, MA, NY and other liberal hotspots. Even the wackos in his party from free states would have been forced to abandon him. They did learn a lesson in '96, but it seems that they are slowly forgetting their past. Or they just don't care because they control the media machine.

Cliche or not, if it is the truth, it is the truth. Understanding the enemy is the first step in defeating the enemy. Our enemy is well versed, and we don't have the generals in our party that are interesting in victory.

I don't consider that "another tired old cliche."

My point was that if these UT statues are so sacred, so revered, why have they been essentially ignored for decades, until now?

I can't say what their status was before, when UT had virtually no blacks on campus, except maybe as janitors and most public buildings had 3 bathrooms and 2 water fountains, for white and colored.

Moreover, the statues are not being tossed onto the slag heap of history. Several are being moved to historical display collections. According to the letter we received,

quote:
The statues depicting Robert E. Lee, Albert Sidney Johnston, John Reagan and James Stephen Hogg are now being removed from the Main Mall. The Lee, Johnston and Reagan statues will be added to the collection of the Briscoe Center for scholarly study. The statue of James Hogg, governor of Texas (1891-1895), will be considered for re-installation at another campus site.
