About 10 years back I bought my one and only Remmington, a new 7005R in 308.

The 5R, a heavy target rifle, my CZ 550 American in 30-06 would outshoot it. The trigger (an X-Mark) was awful...

Sold for more than I paid... Never looked back

Over ten years ago, I had two gunsmiths in Virginia rework a stock 700 LTR, which was supposedly one of their premier rifles for LE. Both improved the rifle in different ways, including replacing the stock trigger which has been the subject of recalls. Both smiths found problems with the rifle as manufactured by Remington. Since then, I have avoided any Remington products. I do recall that the Remington 870 I acquired in the early 1970s through the BX while on active duty was flawless. Sad that a once great company has fallen so far over the decades.

I have 12-15 Remingtons. Mostly 721, 722, 725. These are good guns. Included are two 700s, an early 308, and a newer 223 heavy barrel. The 223 is dead nuts (squirrels beware) accurate. Also a 870 and a 1100. Both older type.

The only bad thing I ever saw in a 721 was the ringed chamber and feed of the 721 264M. The 264 chamber had a machined ring just ahead of the belt that seized the case making extraction impossible without pounding. I rebarreled the 264 to 7Mag with a Sako blank I got from my Garcia Rep friend. Finally shot great except now I fed from the magazine. It did not feed. Case rear popped out too soon. I believe the 721 mag rails for the longer H&H mag were used for the 264 and were not quite right. Dad had a very early 700 7Mag that did not feed. I am sure they changed the mag rail design before too long.

Haven't bought a Remington in years.
Worked part time in a gun shop and saw the way things were going.
Last two rifles that I spent my money on were Tikka's.
Couldn't be happier.

Also lost my love for Remington back a long time ago when they had the recall on the barrels for the 870 wingmaster.

I bought the wingmaster shotgun about 1979/80 with a 30 inch barrel. Used mainly for pheasant, quail, chucker and such. Got teased a lot for letting the birds fly a ways before firing. Usually only used light 8s or 9s. But one time out duck hunting had 6s (no ducks shot at) ... but ended up using two 00 bucks on a deer wading in the water on the last day of hunting season. Game warden checking ducks at the landing sure was surprised !

Only got $15 for the recall but kept the barrel thinking that maybe it was more of a user error on the recall and not the barrel. Would still like to use light loads in it but have not yet to date.

The other Remington I have is a police bought 870 from 1970 that has been tricked out.

Only Remingtons I have, and as such I too do not have love for them anymore since the recall.
