K5, how much is your service. I need a mobile internet service that I can take to different locations. By the way this is satellite not cellular. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

Ha! You caught me. Those things are called land lines. Old people with bad hearing sometimes find them helpful. That particular one is kind of cool. In addition to a speaker phone it has a boost button, that is really nice. It also has a button to adjust the tone and another button that slows down the speech of the person you are talking to. No kidding. It's nice if you get one of those Asian customer service reps. We also have an old fax machine that the wife uses. So yeah...we need it. .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress.

Can one use the Starlink App to determine placement prior to purchase? Or does one need to purchase and then setup an account for the app? Trying to plan ahead a little on placement. I read it needs to face North East and that puts it on the front of my house. Anyone have the router in the attic? ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. I don’t have the router in an attic, but it is in an unheated section of a pole barn. No issues with heat or cold. Temps up north can be pretty extreme. It’s ISO rated as well. I’d have no issues putting it outside underneath a covered porch for example. Good question on the app. Don’t know. I do know that everyone I know that runs it has never had issues finding a signal. The footprint of the entire thing is pretty small. -------------------------------------- "There are things we know. There are things we dont know. [QUOTE]Originally posted by Black92LX: Once I type in my address to proceed that $40 a month option goes away./QUOTE]Me too. Evidently there are a limited number of accounts available for any given location; when capacity for that type of account is reached, the option disappears. I initially see $40, $80, and $120, but when I enter my address, the $40 no longer shows. That option is probably popular with users like me, who mainly use email and light web browsing with little or no streaming of video or music, no gaming, etc. I might start with the $80 plan and monitor for availability of the $40. Still better than Spectrum or AT&T, which are the only wired options at my location. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

Absolutely. You will use the app and select "check for obstructions". then place your phone at the location you think you want to use and point the camera of your phone at the sky. This can take an hour or more, and is best done on a cold day as I had my phone get too hot (I had to put it in the fridge to cool it down). __________________________ More blessed than I deserve. http://davesphotography7055.zenfolio.com/f238091154

Yes if it is raining hard it pretty much kills it. Mist and light rain which we've had the last few days no issue. Going on 3 years now at $120. 210 download, 11.5 upload, 20m/s ping Does fine with streaming/gaming at the same time. No issues with rain or snow for me ever. Not sure why my experience would be different.

No problem issues even in heavy rain. It’s heated so snow and ice are not issues.

Once you reach the tower on a cellular system it generally connects to the ground infrastructure via cable or fiber. This is called the backhaul connection. I had T-Mobile home internet at my last place and was thrilled with it but during a bad ice storm (hopefully not something that hits Florida too often...), the cable/fiber that serviced the tower I was on went down and while it had a strong signal on the model and my phone, there was nothing at the other end. Ostensibly, Starlink has the same potential risk as eventually it has to go to a ground station and enter the wired infrastructure but since all those satellites up there can act as a relay, if the one nearest you is down, it should be able to beam it to another ground station and keep you going. I have the Mini dish as backup for when the internet here goes down. Standby plan is $10/month and comes with a 10GB allowance which when I remember, I'll turn off the cable modem and run the Starlink just to get my money's worth. It's amazing that something the size of a laptop can deliver reliable (130 down and 20-30 up seems common on the small dish) internet. And I can bring it essentially anywhere and have solid internet in a few minutes.

If I remember correctly there are over 900 Starlink satellites up there so we are always able to connect to one of them. We have never lost service. As far as rain goes, I honestly cannot remember a time we lost service. These dishes have a built in heating unit and if it sense ice or snow it melts it pretty quick. Believe me, it really works. .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress.

“As of late November 2025, there are over 8,800 active Starlink satellites in orbit, with a total of more than 10,400 launched. The number of operational satellites is slightly lower due to factors like deorbiting and satellites being in the process of becoming operational.” Serious about crackers.

I believe you are referring to the mini. Which is not what you need if in a home and want full internet and streaming capabilities. "Practice like you want to play in the game"
