I'm thinking about switching to Starlink for home internet service. If you are using residential or business Starlink service, I would like to hear about your experience with it, before I make a decision.

  • Is it reliable? Service interruptions?

  • Is it giving you the speed that you expected, per the plan that you chose?

  • How about billing? Any surprise charges?

My sister signed up for it about 8 months ago and seems very happy. She was getting tired of the cable company’s constantly dropping service and said the Starlink is much better.
That’s all I have for you.

I got the travel mini one as a backup for my home. Billing and turning on and off has been exceptional through the app. very easy to use and understand.

We lose internet about 10 days a year. I just turn the service on with my phone, walk out to the pool and put it on the table, no screen or overhead. speed has been as advertises and after about 10 minutes for it to center itself it runs great.

I have been very happy with it.

Yes, just got Starlink about 3 months ago. So far, it has been rock-steady. The speeds are fine for my uses, moving <1GB video files and 100+ JPEG images from drone mapping/measuring flights on a regular basis.

Streaming at home is just fine, even with 2 or 3 people doing so.
Price is exactly what they say it is, every month.

The Starlink app is wonderful for doing speed tests, aiming the antenna, and seeing any obstructions.

    We love it.

We just get a few mobile setups for some field units [where the cell service is nearly non-existent], not enough use yet to have an opinion on them.

Father in law has had it for a couple years now and it has been absolutely rock solid.
He lives in the sticks and the only other option is the phone company at like 50mbps down and 1 up.

I would love to have it but I can’t justify the $120 a month as I have a bunch of options.
Have Spectrum currently and getting ready to ditch them as the just jacked my rate up to $75 a month.
AT&T wants $35 a month for their AT&T Air so likely going to give it a go.

Looking at their website, I see the $120 / month plan, but I also see a $40 plan, the difference being the download speed. The $40 plan would be more than sufficient for our household requirements. Taxes an junk fees probably add another five or ten bucks.

I have the 120 plan at home, and have since beta (it was 100 back then). Works great, and no junk fees, the monthly withdraw is 120. I have the 250 business plan at the office, cheaper than comcast, far less outages, and similar speed. If you do not have access to cheap fiber, it is a solid option.

I'm thinking that it might be more reliable than fiber. At least once a month in this area, cable (or fiber) is cut by some contractor when digging for construction, etc. Wireless, like cellular or satellite, is not vulnerable to this type of thing.

    Oh, yeah.

They are quite capable of cutting the fiber that runs the tower most anytime.

That’s referred to billy back hoe. It’s not that common. Exception more than the rule. Fiber is the top of the food chain for an ISP. In the business world, they don’t stack rank satellite service over fiber with the laser. Fiber is symmetrical unlike DSL or cable modems. But Spectrum and Comcast are about to release their symmetrical coaxial service. The test markets go live in 2026. They have tested it up to 10Gb.

I have had Starlink since January of this year.

Wired connection with a Nightforce router connected to the Starlink modem gives me the following speed:

280mb download 30mb upload with 23ms ping time.

The install was very easy. On top of the kit I purchased a mast that mounted to the eave of the house, longer cable (the cable is one piece, no joints, no barrel connectors), and the installation kit for the cable which include a long bit to drill through the wall, a spade bit to make the hole big enough, and a rigid plastic tool to run the cable through the wall.

This is way better than Centurylink (our wired internet through the phone company), Hughesnet (satellite internet), or any of the other options we have here in this small town.

Also while it is $120.00 per month I have only experienced one or two outages in the entire time we have been using the service, and those were Starlink wide, and not just local outages.

The $120.00 covers all taxes and fees for the month.

I have had Starlink for a couple of years and just upgraded to the new dish. I have the roam unlimited option so I can take it with me in the rv. At home Xfinity is unreliable and Centurylink is a joke locally. A new provider is putting up fiber cable all over town and I'll look into it but probably stay with Starlink to take on the road.
Very easy to set up and maintain and speeds can be 60 - 350mbs depending on how many people are using it. With roaming you don't get as fast speed. It slows down during prime time. All in all I like it.

Interesting. I never scrolled down that far before typing in my address to check service. Once I type in my address to proceed that $40 a month option goes away.
I guess I will call them tomorrow. 100mbps is fine for us we don’t game. Just stream a few shows really.

I’ve had Starlink for going on two years. Zero outages. It has reset itself a couple of times. No billing surprises. Very satisfied with it. Wife works from home. No complaints on speed.

We've had Starlink for over a year now. No complaints at all. The router needs rebooting every so often but that is no big deal. Here is about our average download speed now. A huge improvement over the 25 megs we were getting with Hughesnet. The App is awesome.

We have had it for little over a year now. It replaced ViaSat which became pricey and problematic. We have had no issues with Starlink and the service has been reliable. We added an additional modem in the house (the antenna and main modem is on a pole barn about 75yds from the house. The 2nd modem acts as a repeater and booster allowing service throughout the house and in every room in the basement without issue. It’s crazy easy to set up, and the billing has been stable and honest.

3+ years and nearly perfect in an area that there are no practical alternatives. $120/mo for me.
