Everyone collects that. Those are basics, and it’s very helpful when running a large scale operation. -- I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. JALLEN 10/18/18 https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...610094844#7610094844

Yep, Brave is excellent. I hate using the YouTube app on my phone, it's nothing but ads. ______________________________________________ "If the truth shall kill them, let them die.” Endeavoring to master the subtle art of the grapefruit spoon.

I use the Brave browser and uBlock Origin together and I have only seen the disable adblocker message once in the last six months. Refreshing the page was all I needed to get past that message. I also use the Return YouTube Dislike extension so I can see the number of dislikes/down votes that videos have and the Disable HTML5 Autoplay extension so that videos don't automatically start playing when the pages load. The Disable Autoplay extension is great so I don't have unexpected videos playing and slowing down the page loads or having audio start playing at inconvenient times.

Any idea how to get coffee break or other blocker to work on a tv with roku? ----------------------------------------- Roll Tide! Glock Certified Armorer NRA Certified Firearms Instructor

Buy a cheap mini computer and stream via browser. I highly doubt you will find any easy way to circumvent ads on a proprietary "smart" TV. "We've done four already, but now we're steady..."

Uhhh, it's a bit more that 'basics' depending on what you're doing and how you're doing it! Note the differentiation when using a mobile device (cellular phone or tablet). They are collecting WAY more info/data from you when using those devices (vs a PC), including Location Data! You are targeted and data mined to a MUCH greater extent when using a mobile device vs utilizing a PC! The VAST majority of people that complain about paywalls, or click-bait ad laden links posted here on SF are VERY likely utilizing their phones to deliver that 'experience'. I won't click on a YouTube link when using my phone and set up Brave as the 'default browser' in order to avoid much of the invasive tracking/data mining nonsense that is Google whenever I happen to click on any link shared w/ me. I use Safari by default when I'm accessing and/or searching the internet otherwise (initiated by me) w/ my phone. On a PC I use Firefox ESR w/ AdGuard AdBlocker (with a ridiculous amount of filters turned on!), and Brave w/ No add'l extensions (None needed in my use case). I will use which ever is open/convenient at the moment however I do have certain things I will use either one or the other browser for. That said, I basically use Firefox ESR as my primary browser, but if the filtering/blocking from AdGuard AdBlocker breaks the website functionality, I will switch to Brave. I will NOT use Google Chrome under ANY circumstance! I refuse to be 'the product', and as such I'm avoiding Google, facebook (really anything Meta!), and Microsoft, etc, whenever & wherever possible! ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !! Correct. These blockers like Coffe Break and others are all web browser plugins. But if you're watching YouTube via the YT app on a TV/tablet/phone/Roku/Firestick/Xbox/Playstation/etc., it's not using a web browser. It's using Youtube's own proprietary app they've created for that platform. And there aren't going to allow any third party plugins to be installed on their own app to circumvent their monetization. So your best and only option would be to connect a computer to your TV and use a web browser with those plugins on the computer, basically just using the TV as a big computer monitor. You could do that either by directly connect a computer to the TV via a HDMI cable, or by wireless casting your computer screen to the TV if they both have that capability available.

I think you're missing an important piece... Coffee Break - the Chrome extension (plugin) those posts are referring to - isn't available on mobile platforms. It's only for desktop Chrome. The Android/iPhone version of Chrome doesn't support extensions. So that negates your concerns about it harvesting your phone's location data and such. They likely just used a standard boilerplate privacy policy.

^^ Well, first of all, the post I quoted left off the part about 'Coffee Break', and yes I did read through the whole thread, but I missed that reference on the previous page...BUT I wasn't posting about 'Coffee Break' anyway. I thought the Usage Data terms were taken from YouTube itself, and I was specifically responding to the statement "Everyone collects that. Those are basics..." and how Mobile vs PC access is handled differently. I provided examples of that, as well as my methods of mitigating it, which includes avoiding anything Google whenever possible, especially Chrome! I would contend that what I posted is essentially accurate, in that ALL of these data mining corporations, websites, apps, etc (where YOU are their product!), do in fact handle traffic from mobile devices differently than that from PCs! I rest my case... ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !! Trump 47....Making America Great Again!
