How else do you think YouTube makes money and pays content creators ?
I’m sure as heck not paying YouTube a premium to avoid it so I sit through them until the skip button appears.

If something is free, that means you are the product. They are gettting your IP address and marketing local adds to you. And by your IP they also likely know your gender and income range etc. they are not stupid people running those companies. Evil maybe. But not stupid.

I pay the $30 a month. YouTube is the substitute for cable TV at my house. It’s how my wife watches all her Korean TV. That alone makes it worth the $30.

Being ad free, I would also say, after having it ad free, you cannot go back. It makes the viewing experience far more pleasurable.

I rub adblocker + and chrome,
and a youtube log in,

they have a love hate relationship with the adblocker,

most times I get a small popup wanting me to pay for youtube TV, or sign up for some other option

sometimes I get the big black window on the video that I am violating terms of service, disable my adblocker or whitelist NOW

sometimes I have to suffer thru the first commercial just enough to skip and then there are no more,

and once in a while it gets in a loop where it just plays 3 seconds or less and goes to the next song, (guessing the adblocker is fuking with the algorithums,,,??)

either way, it is a good source of music, and information

YouTube has been showing ads for years. It's not new.

Luckily, there are browser plugins that block YouTube ads. Even on Chrome, which is a browser owned by Google (who also owns YT), and which recently made some changes to the browser that were intended to eliminate most of the popular YT ad blocking plugins.

It's a bit of an arms race between the blocker makers and Youtube/Google, with YT/G constantly trying to find ways to defeat the blockers, and the blockers getting updated and changed to continue to work.

I previously used standard uBlock Origin ad blocker, but it was caught up in the recent Chrome software changes and is no longer supported.

I now run a combination of uBlock Origin Lite (which doesn't work on YT ads) and Coffee Break (which does). I don't see ads on websites or on YouTube.

The cool thing about Coffee Break specifically is that it's not technically an ad blocker, so YT doesn't try to fight it, block it, or give you strongly-worded warnings about disabling ad blockers. Instead, it runs YT ads at ludicrous speed, around 50 milliseconds per ad. So YouTube thinks you watched the ad, but you never see it or even notice the hitch in playback. Plus, this means that the content creators still get their (miniscule) portion of the pay from the ad view, which helps your favorite creators continue to fund their channels.

Win-win.

Assuming you are using it in chrome, and you didn't remove it you can get it working again. Mine is still working.

YMMV:

And importantly, the Coffee Break plugin is only active when you're at Youtube.com. It doesn't have - nor request - permission to be active on any other website.

So I don't really care if they're collecting the data of what Youtube videos I'm watching... Youtube itself already does that.
