I’ve been in Knoxville TN the last few days. Was going to head back to eastern NC Sunday. Not going to happen. Knoxville will not see much snow but I have to make it over the mountains and through Greensboro (I-40). Those areas are probably getting significant snowfall, 8-12 inches. Will try on Monday.

I just woke up here at Smith Mt. lake in SW VA and we have an inch on the ground and it's coming down pretty heavily. Forecasts here are for 8-14"....

Kannapolis is getting a decent little bit.
I watched the news at 0500hrs at work and the news people said I-85 around metro Charlotte is pretty decent.

Well, I left at 0540hrs and they were wrong.
I could not believe how much south bound traffic was out on the roads.

I did see about 5 salt trucks that were staggered clearing the southbound lanes but not a thing was done on the north bound lanes.

7" on the ground here overnight and there's a good bit of weather still on the way. Gentle, but continuous fall of small flakes.

Odd coincidence, this morning, we saw our first 'snowbirds' (aka 'Juncos'). Not clear whether the Juncos arrived simultaneously with this first snow of the season, or perhaps the white background just made it easier to see them.

At any event we are glad to have cleared the calendar, stocked the pantry, and to have arranged the generator's scheduled maintenance for last week. Power's stayed on so far ('knocks wood') but one never knows.

Maybe 6" of the sloppy wet stuff. Small trees are bending a bit, wind is picking up.
Not good.

Back in California I drove Cajon Pass frequently. When it snowed, there were no problems driving it - because you couldn't. Any snow sufficient to stick to the roadway resulted in CHP closing it off altogether. Too much traffic, too few people with traction aids.

Just south of Morganton, and I just measured 10 inches on my deck. That’s with some sleet packing it down so I’d say we’re going well over a foot before it stops. The drive to work in the morning will be fun.

Unless you are necessary medical personnel, won't everything be buttoned down? Or is that just the big cities that lock up?

The 30 minute ride took an hour and 45 minutes this AM. Lots of jacknifed tractor trailers and disabled vehicles on I85 in Alamance and Guilford counties.

If you can avoid going out, stay in and off the roads. Stay safe! Regards 18DAI

Maybe an inch and a half here in Mint Hill. What a disappointment.
