I start my 6 our of 7 day rotation tonight.

I was off the last two days and it has been chaos around Kannapolis/Concord at all of the stores

I understand getting the essentials but people had overflowing carts of junk food, tv dinners etc..

This place is worse than Richmond when they go into panic mode.

We had to go to store for sweet condensed milk for snow cream, luckily we had plenty of milk because it was almost all gone.

My brother lives in Charlotte and I'm sure this will be a real shitshow as just a couple inches can shut that area down, let alone a foot to 18 inches.

I don't think that area would get the 12-18 inches, more like a third or even a fourth of that. (I've never been to Charlotte, but its elevation is only ~700 feet.) The mountainous corner of western NC (3-5000 feet), yes. I am near that area at ~1500 feet and am expecting to get ~2-5 inches.

My son works at the local grocery store. They were slammed last night. He is working until 11 tonight. I am betting there is no milk or bread left...

It cracks me up because everyone panics and the snow is gone in 2 days.

Do, Or do not. There is no try.

The Weather Channel’s Jim Cantore is stationed about 20 minutes from where I live.

That is a very ominous sign of things to come!

Asheville and Boon are at the starting point of the mountains. Charlotte is 3 hrs south. The most of the cold goes around the north side. I expect we'll see snow but it won't be near what Boon will get.
Monday it'll thaw some then freeze again at night. Ice and chit .... By Wed it'll be going away hopefully.
Gro stores cleaned out ....

In Texas, when we get a snowfall/ice forecast people clean out grocery stores like a Cat 5 hurricane is bearing down on them. Ludicrous since it's usually melted in under 12 hours.

Is that how it is in North Carolina as well?

I'm on duty starting tonight at 10PM thru 7AM sunday. Repeat, needed or not on Sunday thru Tuesday nights.

For the last 4 years I have been on duty for every snowstorm and hurricane. I can't wait to retire from this shit.

Hopefully the Mighty Taurus will get me there and back with no problems. It went well during the last big (8 inches) snow. Stay safe! Regards 18DAI

Yeah --I'm in extreme eastern NC (Outer Banks). If it snows during the night; its 99.9% gone from the roads by noon. The Gulf Current helps too.

The current "blizzard" is pretty much a joke here!

I'm somewhat irritated with the weather guessers and their employment of the European Model. They start of with a possibility of one hundred fifty seven inches of snow so sayeth one weather forecaster in Highpoint NC (Its a standing joke from previous forecasts)

I was in Greensboro this afternoon. When I got there, there were probably 80 utility company trucks at the mall parking lot. When I left, there were probably 200, and I know I passed another 30-40 on my way back to the mountains.

Hang in there, NC neighbors!

God bless America.

Wife and kids are out in KS visiting family. So I'm bach-ing it here for a while. I've got food. I'm fine for tomorrow but I work in construction (home building) and we have lots of houses that have to close by the end of the year. I'm not looking forward to the rest of the month if we can't work Monday/Tuesday. Guess Christmas will be cancelled.
