What happened to the death penalty? I remember when the state of Delaware and the Commonwealth of Virginia used to hang individuals accused of capital murder. Now, it seems the taxpayer is on the hook to support these criminals until they die, or God forbid, are released after "serving their sentence." | |||

It is common to take it off the table if a guilty plea is obtained. Not everybody, for various reasons, wants to go through a trial. I assume the victim's family had some input on this. These turds would have been convicted in a trial anyway, since they filmed themselves doing it. Too bad stupidity isn't a crime. Also, per a US Supreme Court Ruling a few years ago, criminals under 18 can't be sentenced to death or Life Without Parole. In Missouri, the certified as adults criminals are charged with Murder 2nd Degree as they can get more time than the current "they are just kids and their poor brain hasn't developed enough to know Right from Wrong" modified Murder 1st Degree. Most states have truth in sentencing which is usually at least 85% of sentence BEFORE they are eligible for Parole. | |||
