We bought it Jan 2018. This morning I woke up and looked in the freezer. Everything was not frozen. Ice cream was liquid. We unplugged it and I had the wife use a hair dryer while I'm at work. This is after she went to the grocery yesterday and both the LG and old garage fridge are packed. I called my local appliance guy who is not an LG warranty guy. He said we could defrost it but with his experience the compressor is shot. Its covered under warranty but not labor. I bought a new, nice fridge so we wouldn't have these problems!! Anyone else have this experience? Mrs. BennerP220 is on the phone with LG now, none too happy.

I believe that LG is also covering labor on these POS compressors for five years. See the link at the bottom of my post. I am in the same boat presently only we are about to get our third, compressor since 2016. They have covered parts and labor on all replacements and the evaporator that also had to be replaced. https://lgcommunity.us.com/dis...uncement-please-read

Contact LG directly. They replaced my compressor (4 year old) for free, PARTS and LABOR. They sent their locally contracted repair guy. I think they have some year models that have known compressor issues. Also, ask for a replacement refund for any food that went bad (separate claim). It is an option. I did not spoil any food, so I did not file any claim. They will reimburse up to $250 (if I remember correctly). I just noticed you already replaced a replacement fridge. _______________________ P228 - West German

Not an expert but had something similar on my Whirlpool. Turns out it was some relay. The relay was expensive ($70?) but was easy to replace (just tight squeeze). There's a way to test the relay I think but don't remember how. I referenced appliance parts websites for DIY info. "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." Slight drift: My LG refrigerator purchased early last year was deemed Non-Repairable (after two service calls) right at 6 months old . Replaced with a Whirlpool made in Tennessee. Thanks, guys. So, she talked to LG. Said someone would call her in 24-48 hrs! Good Grief So, you guys didn't pay anything? That is really good news. Johnny, did LG pay for the new whirlpool? Its funny because we only used to get whirlpool as everything used to be made right here in Evansville,IN, just across the highway from where I sit right now.

We will be calling back for the food. We've definitely lost quite a bit.

Good enough is neither good, nor enough |
This is the reason I got the extended warranty on my refrigerator (LG). Anymore they last a long time or give up quick. Hope it works out for you. There are 3 kinds of people, those that understand numbers and those that don't.

Do you keep your freezer and fridge full? I keep as much of the empty space full with icepacks and frozen water bottles as possible to help maintain the temperature over a period of time. Helps with daily efficiency, but also keeps food from melting as quickly during a failure.

Repair guy called and told my wife won’t be here until Monday. Said he needs to order parts. I’d think an LG repair shop would typically have parts on hand, especially ones they replace regularly.

Our LG shit the bed. Out of extended warranty, but the compressor was covered for 10 years. We had to pay $270 in labor. I will NEVER buy another. Niech Zyje P-220 Steve

Anyone remember the old , weigh a ton, all steel fridges from the 40's and 50's. They lasted 40 , 50 years or more. Nothing like the crap we get today; fridges, freezers, hot water heaters, etc.

We bought a Sammi soung 10 years ago. It died an an ugly death a while back. I paid an idiot to come out (he wasn't really an idiot, just a con man). He fixed the computer problem by disconnecting a computer board. Then needed a deposit to order the new board. Never heard from him again. The wife went out and bought a GE. Her dad used to work for them, so she had loyalty. So far its been OK. But never again will I buy a Korean appliance. There's little you can do these days. Go visit the big box store, and they all look the same. But they don't last very long. Pay $2K for a deluxe appliance and it still won't last long. The business model is the same. Drive the American makers out of business, then flood our market with short lived junk. Unhappy ammo seeker

hello darkness my old friend |
My appliance guy came to check out my fridge a while back. He wired it differently for about 90 and advised that it could last a month or a couple of years. He said don't expect to get more than a decade out of a good refrigerator. He said LG and Samsung are the worst. He often had to tell people the fridge was done for good just a few months after the warranty expires. He said LG and Samsung were regular disappointments for people who often paid $3000 for the appliance.

Same thing with us. Repair guy came and did some diagnostics tests. He said he need to order the compressor from LG. He came back 2 days later with the needed part for the repair. I think the local repair shops are keeping their in-stock parts for upfront paying customers. Warranty repairs stand second in line as they have to wait to get reimbursed after they finish the job. Thats just my thought. This message has been edited. Last edited by: ador, _______________________ P228 - West German

I live in the Seattle metro area. My mother lives 30 minutes north of Napa, CA (challenging for repairs calls on most things). She's now in a Adult Family Home with dementia (another story). I'm tasked with selling the house as well as, other things I wont go into here. Last week while down there at my mothers house, the day I was to leave and drive back to Seattle, her 6 year old LG refrigerator shit the bed. I couldn't figure what was going on. Power on, everything appeared to be working, temps on the panel appear normal but the refrigerator and freezer were headed southbound to dry lake-bed temps. Lost everything inside. My parents bought the LG in 2015 from Home Depot. Out of warranty, now. Most repair shops politely laughed at me. Basically told that LG and Samsung were shit and my compressor was likely gone. I'm driving back Saturday. I bought an Igloo cooler at Costco today so I can have something cold while I deal with my stainless steel boat anchor in California...

No, they have to get approval from LG to do the work, which takes time. Also, most places don't stock compressors as usually most people junk the refrigerator before changing a compressor.
