Thank you. That makes sense, too.

Same thing with us. Repair guy came and did some diagnostics tests.
Said he need to order the compressor. He came back 2 days later. I think the local repair shops are keeping their in-stock parts for upfront paying customers. Warranty repairs stand second in line as they have to wait to get reimbursed after they finish the job. Thats just my thought.

No, they have to get approval from LG to do the work, which takes time. Also, most places don't stock compressors as usually most people junk the refrigerator before changing a compressor.

There’s a new class action against LG for their compressors. Don’t forget to join so you can get your $5 coupon off your next LG appliance. Roll Eyes

My 3 year old LG took a dump. The fan that blows the cool air around died. I replaced it myself for $30. Been fine ever since.

My lg fridge did the same thing. It turned out to be a small leak in the refrigerant lines. If it is the compressor you can “Karen” your way up the totem pole at LG and get it covered. This is true. Either way you need to get it Properly diagnosed

It's looking like there is a huge gap between LG appliances and LG electronics divisions because I love the 2 LG Smart TVs, 2 monitors and my LG G6 phone that we have. They have all been flawless and I will continue to buy their products. Such a shame.

Another LG compressor victim - 2 years old.

I went into it spooked - stuck to what fit under the 38" cabinet opening - else I would have gone Whirlpool or GE. Have the extended warranty too---big help they were..........

So it died Saturday past - repair scheduled for Friday.

LG is legendary for making absolute shit fridges. Google LG compressor failure and you’ll have reading material for years.

Hope you have better luck than we did. We had five service calls on the icemaker in our LG fridge in the first year.

I wanted them to take it back as a lemon, but they wouldn't budge. All those service calls were under warranty. The warranty is expired now, and the first time something goes wrong, this POS goes to the dump. I won't pay a dime to service it, and won't ever buy another LG appliance.

So I would never buy an LG. My pops had nothing but issues.

Samsung, I have never had an issue with. One we left when we sold out house. It was maybe 12 years old when we sold the house. No issues at all.

The one that is in the garage here is now eight years old. Never had a single issue with it.

I know I’m the minority here, but Samsung has done great for me.

So true... I just don't understand why people keep on buying LG refrigerators. It's is not like the word is not out there. They have been turning out the same junk refrigerators for many years now.

Good advice to fill the free space with food or liquid drinks.

I never followed up on this. The repair guy came and not only put in an upgraded compressor but changed out other parts he said would fail, also. One of the big parts was originally steel and he put in an new one that was aluminum. He said the steel one will rust and fail. LG paid for everything and sent us a check for the food we lost. Not happy about the inconvenience but it turned out ok. The fridge is working great since then. We are building a new house and this fridge will stay with the current house when we move in a few months.

Yep, sure do. I've got one of those in my garage that just runs and runs and runs. The garage temp ranges from 80 to 20 degrees over the course of a year. No problem.

We had an LG refrigerator - Bottom "drawer" freezer, top two doors refrigerator. A big model - 30 cubic feet. It was expensive - normal price was $3,000, it was on sale for about $2200.

After about 5 years, the ice maker stopped working. We called the repair person, who came and looked at it. He told us it would cost $350 to fix the ice maker, but that it "wasn't worth it" since the "refrigerator was on its last legs".

We were shocked, stating the unit was only 5 years old. He said the average lifespan of these is about 6-7 years, max. We decided not to fix the ice maker, and continued using the thing for another 1.5 years. At that point, we were sick of using ice trays to make ice, and were getting nervous that the unit would die any time.

We ordered a GE "Cafe" model about 2.5 months ago. The GE factory in Kentucky has not been up full-speed due to COVID. So, it took two months before it arrived; we've had it two weeks.

It works fine, but the quality of assembly is a bit disappointing. Around the doors and the front of the unit, there are seams where the white insulation is not covered by the finish. This is happening in several places - plus, there are scuffs around the corners that do not appear to have happened during delivery.

We called the place we bought it. They told us they've been seeing this recently with appliances made during COVID - quality has declined. They are ordering us new doors, but told us they have no idea when they would be available, and it could be months.

Quality of appliances overall is poor these days. At least with washers/dryers, you could by a Speedqueen for perhaps 50% additional cost, and the quality and durability are outstanding. But for the high end refrigerators/freezers, to get the built-in models, you have to spend at least about $10K, a factor of 5 times what a regular one would cost, and we're just not willing to spend that.

Our Samsung fridge was a POS from the first week we owned it. Motherboard was bad, month later the compressor went out, been through 7 ice makers . Service guy told me Samsung and LG keep him in business, always breaking. Finally got the extended warranty co to get us a new one and got a GE. It’s doing great one year later.
