I don't drink coffee but I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday he told me his family puts Sweetened Condensed Milk in their coffee. I had never heard of that.
I drive across the I-10 bridge over the Miss. River here in Baton Rouge a few times a week. Most of the time I get to smell the Community Coffee Co. roasting their beans beside the river. Smell good I just don't like the taste.

I tried to drink it without anything in it but just can't do it. I tried a couple high end brands but it wasn't for me, as much as I wanted to like it. Of course I made it in my old coffee maker but know I need to get a press to really experience the difference. I accept my "dolled up" coffee for what it is, a morning boost.
Like Pipe Smoker, I have been drinking my coffee with a splash of cream for years. I did find that if I filled a thermos or travel cup, black was the only way to go. I had no problem drinking it that way. Maybe it's time to rethink the whole thing.

Black coffee for the last 60 years. Twice I ventured into the land of iced coffee. I couldn’t make it past the first sip both times. I’d rather take a beating on a crowded Main St. as to a third attempt.

Interesting point. I prefer lagers, Stiegl Gold (named Goldbräu in Austria, where it’s made) is my favorite. It comes in 1/2L (16.9 fl oz) cans. The right size for a beer!
IMO, lagers have much more natural beer flavor than ales. Ale brewers usually add lots of hops to give ‘em some semblance of flavor.
Serious about crackers

This, I can't stand it. Cold caffeine must be ice tea or soda.
I have been taking my coffee black since 1977. I was stationed at a little Quonset hut camp (Camp Ten-Gan) on Okinawa that was abandoned except for our platoon. Sugar, as well as milk were often in short supply as we had no chow hall, and we were transported up the road to Camp Courtney for all of our meals. It was kind of cool living in our own little camp.

If properly cold brewed (not just reg coffee with ice) it takes much of the bitterness out. I don't drink it black myself but add a bit of some sweetened condensed milk.
With great coffee, you don't have to add anything to it. I found this out by accident on a trip where they had great coffee.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

For the heart burn and stomach folks. I switched to making batches of cold brew. I like it, smooth and never any stomach aches for me. It's definitely worth a try if you havent already. I still toss a splash of vanilla creamer and it's good good. From what I've read and tasted, medium roasts probably make the best cold brew.

This thread has inspired me! I just bought a coffee bean starter pack from ground shark coffee (BJJ friend is the head roaster there) and I have a french press. I’m in need of a bean grinder. Amazon has lots of options, and my local stores do too. Are all grinders basically the same?
Thank you!

I'm in the process of removing sugar from my coffee. I love iced coffee and I can drink it without just cream and no sugar easily. But it took a while for me to skip sugar in hot coffee.
I like a dark roast with maybe more cream than I should. Surprisingly I don't like cold brew. It has an off flavor to me, even if it isn't bitter.
These go to eleven.

Kent Rollins says if you boil the coffee it takes the acid out.
He has several videos on how to make great coffee. Here is one video. Watch his other YouTube videos on making coffee. Basically, warm the water up, then add the coffee grounds. Let come to a rolling boil, add 3 minutes. Let cool down some. Add a splash of cold water, settles the grounds. Result is excellent coffee, no grounds floating in it, and NO ACID.
I drink it black at work. At home I use a mini-moo.
