NY City is not the same as NY state.

I used to have it somewhere... from the NYPD stating you needed special written permission from the police commissioner to transport a handgun through the city. Whether that's the law or just something they made up, it doesn't really matter.

Laws be damned, federal law and the constitution don't matter much if they bankrupt you and ruin your life in the meantime.

That has been the case for decades under the Sullivan Law.

More internet lore than fact. Travelling through the state is legal.

It is legal because of FOPA but that doesn't mean you won't get arrested. There are many well documented cases.

Possession (not carry, POSSESSION) of a handgun inside NYC is illegal without a permit issued by the city.

LOTS of people have gotten arrested just for driving through NYC with a handgun, passing through on the way from one state to another, and have had to actually convince a judge they were covered under FOPA.
...

"Even with federal protections for those who properly secure their firearms and ammunition while transiting through New York, some police agencies in New York (notably the New York State Police and the New York Police Department) do not recognize the federal Firearm Owners Protection Act, and may still detain or arrest travelers, and place such travelers in a situation where they have to reference FOPA as an affirmative defense to criminal charges in court proceedings."

This can happen while flying, too. Several years ago I had an acquaintance who was flying with his gun (unloaded, checked baggage, etc.) in NE US. I can't remember why, but his flight got diverted to NYC and he had to change planes there. He got arrested for illegal weapons possession and ended up pleading to a misdemeanor, IIRC.

This, to me, suggests that it's not just the mayor but NYPD leadership and its officers that are complicit in these gross violations of the 2A. If so, they can all FOAD. They've gone mad like rabies and need to be put down.

You may by law pass through the state of NY with a firearm, unloaded, in the trunk, no ammo, no loaded mags, and while you can technically stop for fuel, food, take a leak you cannot stop for an overnight. You'd be wise to fuel up in PA roll through NY without stopping.

If you get stopped and notify them of the firearm in your vehicle or you are going to jail so unless they want to search your vehicle, being sgt shultz is paramount....

Unless you like a few years in jail...

This ^^^^^^^^

I should be tall and rich too; That ain't gonna happen either
