Deniseair was none too amused when I took the wooden decorative pineapple we'd moved from TX and set it out on the front walkway. I was forbidden to retrieve it from the garbage.

Actually, the pineapple has a long history as a symbol of hospitality. And you'll often see finials on stairs and other places carved as pineapples in older homes.

On the royal Caribbean cruise forum there are discussions about their loyalty club where people get “pinnacle” status. Apparently cruisers eventually misnamed it the pineapple club and would put pineapple pictures on their cabin door to signify their elite status. Anyhow the short version is they found out it also signified being swingers and so they’d get knocks on the door from strangers.
