They’ve watched too many episodes of Barnwood Builders? Seriously, I agree with what ulsterman said, it is a nice gesture of what they had available. It isn’t like they gave you a half eaten lemon meringue pie, or something.

We are somewhat perplexed. We met our new neighbors yesterday. They came to visit us as we have been moving into the new house for a few days. It was a bit hectic as they had their 2 small children with them.

Anyhow, the handed us a casserole and told us what it was and then handed us a jar of pickles with no explanation. We started chatting about stuff, usual pleasantries and then they were on their way. We hardly even realized they gave us pickles. The rice casserole had chicken and cut up veggies, corn, carrots, peas. We were happy to get some homemade food. But I can see no way pickles goes with it.

So are they just being funny, or is there maybe some custom behind the pickles that I don't know?

These go to eleven.

I wouldn’t read too deep into it.

A gift from new neighbors. “Starting off on the right foot” as it were.

Had a new neighbor years ago. He had the smallest yard in the neighbor hood, came from the city. He decided it was alright to drive through my yard to get to his for moving in. I had yet to meet him or the family. We never got along after that.

These people are saying “Hi”. You’ll find out after some time whether they are you best neighbors or the strangest people in the neighborhood. I would assume the first is true.

Casserole and pickles?

They’re probably insulting your sexuality.

You should report them or something.

Arroz con Pollo or Paella? Sounds like a chicken Paella. How was it?

LOL! THIS!! Also, check for lawn gnomes when you return the dish....then you'll know for sure....

Big Grin The pickles aid in preserving the kidneys for the kidney harvest you've been managing to avoid despite our many, many predictions. It's all part of the plan. Big Grin

Obviously it's meant as a nice gesture to welcome new neighbors. But come on, a jar of pickles is an odd welcoming gift.

Now, if they had presented to him some Maille cornichons, that'd be a different story.

I'd rather have neighbors bring us a token welcoming gift than immediately start asking to borrow something or baby sit their kids.

If people would mind their own damn business this country would be better off. I owe no one an explanation or an apology for my personal opinion.

Some funny chit in here. Parabellum wins by a landslide however.

Frayedends, I miss your home construction thread. It is time to buy some new land and build another house.
