Pretty sure my Fiesta is totaled, pretty hard hit tonight. I'm ok, despite the car looking in pretty bad shape.

Starting to browse, in the event [very likely] it need to be replaced.
Wouldn't mind another Fiesta ST, but the ones I'm finding close are older, or black.

2 that have my potential interest, so far.

2017 Forester XT Touring
2019 Fusion Hybrid Titanium
2019 Outback 3.6R
2019 Forester Sport & Limited

The Fusion makes sense as a commuter, for the MPG. The Forester would probably be a bit more fun, and overall more practical.
The Fusion has 136k on it, which gives me pause.
The Forester is at 105k which is about the same as the departed Fiesta.

Anyone with experience with either have any tips?

After having researched Subies fairly heavily prior to purchasing our first last November, I can speak to a few things about the Forester.

2017 puts you a couple years past the head gasket issues so i wouldn't worry about that issue in a 2017.

The CVT's are good for about 130-150K miles before issues surface. And that is if the fluid has been changed at the correct service intervals. Good service records are a must on them.

The other thing is that the front and rear diffs should have the fluid changed at 30-35k miles. Again documentation on this is important.

Wheel hub problems tend to show up around 100k. Not a huge issue but be forewarned that they can fail and do.

Make sure the electronics and the display work.

If the plugs haven't been changed, they are due. It's not an easy thing to change on the boxer engine. Again, just be aware of that.

Look carefully fr ail leaks, especially on the valve covers and look for evidence of oil in the coolant reservoir.

Good luck in the hunt!

No experience with those but some unsolicited advice, which you probably already know.
Do your research before you check them out. The internet can be your friend. Kelly Blue Book, cars.com, auto trader….
Decide on what you want to value it at, set your price, AND WALK AWAY IF it exceeds YOUR PRICE POINT!
The singular universal car buying technique is to value the car in advance and don’t deviate from that.

I've got no problem walking on a bad deal.
I'd look for another Fiesta ST, but they're all older, or black exterior.

Not sure how long it'll be before insurance settles everything. And on a bank Holiday weekend, too.

For a DD, I’d be hunting for the lowest mileage Honda Fit you could find. And I was looking at Leafs last year, to replace mine. I could damn near get a new one (2k on the ODO) for $20k flat. I’ve been dailying mine for 12 years now. It keeps on going. They are cheap AF to purchase 2nd hand. The 2nd gen (hatch) has way more range than mine does too. Virtually nil on maintenance, built in Japan, and brick shit house reliable.

Daughter has one of those for several years now. They've had no issues with it, but with a 7 year old battery the by-design short EV range is even worse.

It feels like one of the most souless cars ever as well, but that's just personal perspective.

The Forrester is a solid car. I have a 2016 XT. 2.0 turbo. Currently has 178k on it. It was my DIL’s car and had a 100k on it when we got it. Subaru infotainment systems suck almost as bad as Toyota haha. The front suspension will need some work. The rear wheel Bearings will go bad and it can be expensive repair($2kish)because of the design. Ours is my work/dog car. There are some outing things like valve cover gaskets and coils but the HG issue isn’t much of a problem like on the older 2.5. The CVT trannys has had some issues but ours is still fine. They rock in the snow!

Current plan is to source some borrowed transportation for now, until we get everything sorted with all of this.

Forgot about the Fit, will look at those, too. Won't be the pocket rocket the FiST was, but they're good cars.

Good to know. I remember looking at a Fusion ST & while I liked it, it felt like you sat on it rather than in it. same with the newer Edge.

Thanks, rather not get into something that will potentially need big repairs in the near future either.

Wow, pretty hard hit, glad you are ok, but get checked out, state laws only give you a limited amount of time to get to a doctor, just in case there is more.

Shame that is a good looking car, maybe another will pop up, check out BAT... nothing live now but you can get a sense for whats out there and prices.

'Pretty hard hit'...Holy Shit, that's an understatement!

'Perpendicular hit, pretty sure it was LF to RF & it put the rears into each other'. Sooo, you're NOT 'sure' what happened?

Did that happen in a parking lot, or is that a really big crosswalk? What does the other vehicle look like? Damn...If you're not sore today, you probably will be tomorrow!

I would not buy a hybrid with that many miles on it.

I’ve pretty much been a Honda and a Mazda guy all my life but just went Subaru and am very happy with it.

Happened pretty quickly. Going through the intersection & car popped out in front of me.
Going off of what 2 witnesses said, which corroborates my impression of what happened.

Intersection of a major street & entrances to some shopping centers. Lots of construction in the area.

I'm tempted by the Forester. The XT makes it appealing, and it's a Touring, so it's nicely equipped.
Brad's comments above give me a but of pause, with it having 105k on it.
