Really.....? Have you been paying attention the last few years, or is hateful speech only protected when it comes from the left? I seem to recall people on the left calling for an absolute end to hateful speech, or anything that resembled hateful speech (read as anything they don't like)

I had a similar discussion with my wife last night. While she is definitely right of center she absolutely believed that ALL speech was protected by the First Amendment. It wasn’t until I actually read it to her did she understand that it pertained to restricting the ability of the government to punish citizens for any criticisms they may wish to say.
This then lead into the discussion about words having consequences and the whole FAFO scenario that is playing out currently.

Maybe now Kimmel realizes that his show didn't air only in blue cities but also in the huge swaths of red America.

I gotta believe there were some in management that were rejoicing that they had a reason to get rid of a money loser without having to face much blowback. And maybe they are starting to understand that they are catering (or marketing) to a bunch of loudmouths and not the majority.

First Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Of course "Even hateful speech is protected". If hateful speech is not to be protected, who determines what is hateful speech?

The leftist argument today is that people like Charlie Kirk engage in hateful speech and it is not to be protected.

That's exactly what is going on in the UK where they don't have a 1st amendment.

However, just because you have a right to speak, that doesn't mean you have a right to be heard.

The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

It wasn't just that Kimmel was saying the shooter was MAGA, a Trump supporter, gaslighting the audience. His big fuck up was making the bullshit he spews as "matter of fact" and throwing collectively under the bus the local, state, and federal investigators, the FBI, the White House, Republicans, anyone that had a handle on the facts- including testimony from credible witnesses. Basically saying they were all lying, intentionally making the shooter appear to have Leftist ideologies and living a gay/tranny lifestyle. And of course the killer actually did have these and has since been verified.

Combined, Nexstar and Sinclair own 62 ABC TV affiliates.

When ABC says the show is suspended "indefinitely" it really means "permanently". Negotiating with those 62 TV stations to once again broadcast Kimmel's show would be a logistical nightmare. On top of that, who knows what Kimmel might try to say if let back on the air? I say "try to say" because the show is pre-recorded, not live, and the bean counters at ABC/Disney are not going to tolerate having to edit and re-tape portions of the show, or even dump particular episodes altogether.

Ol' Jimmy's mouth finally overloaded his ass.

Let's see Colbert run his commie suck about this. He knows now that he might get the same treatment.

Time for the Right to learn how to Fight:

This is the Story of How Jimmy Kimmel was Ripped Off-Air…

What Jimmy Kimmel said about Charlie Kirk is indefensible. It made us all angry. But how do we channel that righteous anger into something productive?

We must focus, isolate the enemy and apply swift, immense tactical pressure.

Mean tweets are great. But they can be ignored. What can’t be ignored are your paying customers organizing against you and FCC investigations. That is exactly what we did.

First thing: ABC is not just another cable channel. ABC operates under a special Federal Broadcast License that lavishes them with taxpayer-funded privileges on the condition that their programming is “fair and equal” and in the “public interest.”

The FCC regulates this license, so my team immediately booked the FCC Chairman @BrendanCarrFCC
on The Benny Show. Chairman Carr put Disney on notice that they were going to have to defend Kimmel’s sick lies about Charlie’s death before the FCC. We made them defend the indefensible. Make them eat it.

Then my team contacted ABC, Disney and local station owners all day. This is key. ABC creates the programming BUT privately owned local affiliates choose to broadcast the programming — or not. They have the power.

There are hundreds of stations with moral, patriotic audiences who love Charlie Kirk and are sickened by Kimmel. We asked these broadcast affiliates why they would continue to carry such indefensible programming by ABC? To their great credit, Nexstar and Sinclair, two massive ABC affiliates that reach 37 million households told us they were pulling Kimmel out of respect for their viewers.

A historic moment. Can’t think of another time that has been done.

This is the free market. Kimmel chose to attack Kirk. Viewers chose to not watch Kimmel. If local viewers turn off Kimmel en-masse the local stations have catastrophic loss in ad revenue and the system collapses. Drop an FCC investigation on top of that and Disney has no choice but to rip the toxic programming from the air.

This is a generational culture war victory.

Charlie always knew how to Fight and Win. We are the majority. When Republicans organize and unite for a common cause we are unstoppable.

Let’s unite in this moment and win.

For Charlie

In response to Kimmel's end, "Liberals Say Boycott Disney" per Tim Poole.

Conservatives Respond "FINALLY! Some common ground."

No chance.
He's going into full ranting Olbermann mode.
After all, he was treated with something less than coddling.

Sinclair said it will refuse to lift the suspension of Kimmel's show on its stations 'until formal discussions are held with ABC regarding the network's commitment to professionalism and accountability.'

The broadcaster also called on Kimmel to issue a 'direct apology to the Kirk family' and to make a 'meaningful personal donation to the Kirk Family and Turning Point USA.' TPUSA is a conservative college campus group founded by Kirk, with Kimmel a well-known liberal.

'Mr. Kimmel's remarks were inappropriate and deeply insensitive at a critical moment for our country,' Sinclair Vice Chairman Jason Smith said in the announcement.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! to be replaced by Charlie Kirk tribute show - and star won't be allowed back on air unless he makes Turning Point USA donation

I would be shocked if Kimmel folds and does the apology / donation thing . That would be viewed as total surrender and he won't go for that. I think he'll pursue other options. Podcasts , etc. He can probably afford it .

Fallon seemed to be the least political of these three idiots... (Not saying he was better or funnier.) But I don't really see him getting more political after the other two were axed.

I love that they’re effectively telling him to bend the knee and kiss the ring or piss off. I agree that his ego almost certainly won’t allow it.

No it always did to an extent but it wasn't SO political and vicious and one sided like it is now with Republicans always the bad guys and the target and the Democrats getting off scot-free.
