After being down the rabbit hole all morning I think KevH has the right idea. For someone not already heavily invested in a different system, a tp-link/Tapo H500 hub and which ever cameras (up to 16) meet your specific need is an ideal starting point. It comes with 16Gb of storage and can be expanded up to 16Tb. With the local storage you don't need to pay for a cloud subscription. It also acts as a hub for automation. | A day late, and a dollar short  |
