I dont think people have realized how much institutional damage Obama did to the military by changing culture. It is his longest and strongest legacy. Team rooms are getting more and more millennial entitlement mindset, and because more and more commanders have it as well, “old school” guys keep getting out. I was having dinner with a counterpart who was seal commander, and the conversation went to politics. He was an ardent Hillary supporter, supported robust gun control measures, and mandatory buy backs of AR’s. “I need to carry a rifle here. No one at home needs one.” Cops are the same. I dont expect it to be palatable. It’s just what Ive seen first hand and how I feel about it. Im glad the debate is alive and well, but it is a fool’s errand to presume one line of work or another is going to be entirely “on your side” of any given debate. Ive been around plenty of cops and soldiers/sailors/marines that were true blue voting anti gunners. The reality is every institution is there will be people on both sides of a given debate, since each institution is a composite of society; “weightings” or “trends” at a micro level not withstanding. The notion that because someone is a cop or in the military or whatever profession your politics has conditioned you to worship, means they will view issues deeply important to you as the same as you is a logical folly. Id recommend that blind loyalty -or contempt- to any particular institution be something people cure themselves of. Judge each man by the content of their character, not the color of their skin….or the cut of their uniform. | |||

IMHO, this is incorrect. The current failure in the military we are seeing can be traced back to the Clinton presidency. Clinton created a form of "hollow forces". A generation of O-4/O-5 officers were trained in the 90s to save money and do more with less because the fall of communism and the Iron Curtain that created a "peace dividend". Those officers are now the 4-Stars leading things and they spent their careers fighting for dollars amongst each other and having less economy matched funds to spend on gear and training. Additionally they are the ones who have been on board with using more training time and funds on the social aspect of being soldiers, sailors, and airmen rather than the core focus of killing the enemy and leaving no doubt that we are the baddest fuckers on the block. Clinton started this ball rolling and every president since who has not said to the CJCoS "be the worlds most badass killing machine and be ready when your country needs you. I don't disagree with 'everything' you're stating here, but you were indicating that Legal CCW Permit Holders 'out-of-state' would be arrested, and guns confiscated, with rare exception. Essentially that all 'State Troopers' were jack-booted thugs, and that small town LE agencies were the only ones from which you'd be lucky enough to escape arrest. Politics, or whether someone is 'on your side' of any given debate has NOTHING to do with it....We are a nation of laws! The implication was presumably that reciprocity existed between the the states in question. Determining reciprocity can be (and I'm sure is) verifiable over the radio. If legal permit holders were being arrested while carrying out of state (or in state for that matter), people would be screaming from the rooftops and we'd certainly be hearing about it. I think it was mine. He doesnt like that i dont inherently trust police, because ive seen first hand them arrest “good guys” with a gun because “they have a job to do”. I deleted it and revised it because a- not what the thread is about, and my primary point was on blind faith in an institution and b- it would have taken more explanation than the thread warranted to be clear. | |||
