Look for molded-in lift handles that don't waste room. There's finger slots very well integrated into the yeti rim. The rope handles combo on the now despicable yeti actually work well in the 2+ years mine has been used....yes, from their pre-dumb period. Of course "now" I would have chosen some other brand.

Solid and arguably the best made of the pre-super cooler era. I have one of their small size boxes and it's most commonly used in the medical industry for transporting organs and medicine. I constantly get comments from nurses and practitioners asking what I'm carrying.

So.... my refrigerator went out on Saturday.
I called the appliance repair guy and he couldn't come until Monday. Two days can be an eternity when your refrigerator is out!
Thank God for my RTIC cooler!

The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Rtic coolers on sale right now (Labor Day) for 40% off and free shipping.

I am extremely tempted to buy the 65. It would be extremely helpful on the trips to Costco or when we are out four wheeling.

Anyone have any other recommendations on a good cooler?
I’m looking for rotomolded and something that has great insulation.

Agreed, I recently picked up a Coleman 120 QT Marine Coastal Xtreme - 6 Day. Granted not a "super cooler" and the "6 - days" is a stretch, but.... Works for me Big Grin Smile

You will be pleased with RTIC. Very sturdy and are ridiculously insulated. I would recommend these over Yeti given the price difference.

I would have pulled the trigger a couple hours ago, but Mrs. Cooker is unsure. She doesn’t think it’s necessary, even though every time we go to Costco (hour drive) she stresses about meat, milk, eggs, etc getting overheated and we have to race home with no stops or fun along the way because the perishables May warm up.
Not to mention we can’t buy Costco ice cream bars/popsicles, which sucks.

This would solve all that. At 40% off!!!

We bought one of these this year, for that very reason. It’s a bit spendy, as these damn coolers are, but the thing has been great!

I got the "Permafrost" I mentioned earlier in this thread. All it says is "Bozeman MT." so I guess that means it's made there?

I love it, very cool molded color pattern, built in bottle openers and comes standard with the cutting board/divider and tray. Oh, and half the price of the Yeti, comparable price to RTIC but with more features and included aforementioned accessories.

I own 2 super coolers but I also own 5-day coolers from big box stores. Unless you're going over 5 days then I wouldn't spend 4x the money for a super cooler. I bought my supercoolers when I lived in Alaska and going 5+ days was a real possibility.

For example, this 70 quart Igloo Marine Cooler is 5-day rated and is $49.97 at Walmart.

This is coming from a guy who supports Houston businesses (e.g. RTIC) and owns hundreds of dollars worth of RTIC tumblers, drinkware, etc.

I have the RTIC 65. It goes with us every trip out of town or vacation. You just never know when you will want to bring home leftovers, or find something perishable while traveling.

It is quite bulky and cumbersome and can be really heavy when loaded.

Part of wanting the rotomolded cooler is that I can let it get banged around in the Toyota, or the Razor. Either way it won’t break.

I have had a few igloo/playmate/Coleman coolers that split. I’d rather spend the money up front and have something that I can pass on to the stepkids.

I ended up getting an Ozark Trails cooler, the largest one they had at the store, it was about $120.

I used it over 2 weeks during a field problem in southern Mississippi where heat index was frequently 105 with a high of 108 one day. Cooler performed extremely well. We would go out for 3 days and come back 1 day to re-fit. Would definitely buy the brand again if I needed anything else. We already use their tumblers and have been pleased.

I was just about to pull the trigger on a sea foam green 75 quart Orca cooler but the sale ended prematurely it looks like — it’s not even 11pm here yet and the sale disappeared. It was showing the discounts about 2 hours ago. I think it was set to EST time though and I waited too long.

I emailed them asking if they’ll still honor the sale and the free shipping for us west coasters. If so, I’ll be buying it tomorrow.

I've used both the Igloo Marine coolers, Yeti's, and a Coleman or two, a lot on boats/yachts. With normal use, meaning people opening them here and there to grab a can of something, they all seem to hold ice exactly the same length of time from what I've seen. The Yeti's are a lot better built in terms of longevity, the feet don't allow it to skid around on the deck, and latches for keeping the lid shut tight (as well as the other supercoolers, which I haven't used because Yeti seems to have the yacht market locked down), but the yeti's are helified heavy compared to the igloo marines. The igloo marine's are a hell of a lot cheaper.

A chunk of DRY ICE will keep the frozen treats just perfectly well frozen for that, especially well for all day long. I brought frozen Chile Rellenos from Albuquerque back to OKC and they were still frozen solid. I bought the Chile Rellenos one afternoon, spent the night at a hotel in Albuquerque, then drove 9 hours to OKC, got home tired, looked in the cooler, still frozen solid. Went to bed, next morning unpacked the cooler into my freezer, they were still frozen solid. I highly recommend Dry Ice, and learning how to utilize it. You can even store refrigerated, not frozen, foods in your cooler, using Dry Ice. You may not need a so called super cooler.
