Some of Ted Bundy's victims were women who helped him because he played a disabled person.

Totally wrong to question anyones sense of safety or security. It's not like he was left out in a blizzard- He could point to where he supposedly lived.

I'm not questioning any single person.

My point was that perhaps we wouldn't be where we are today as a society with so many people afraid of their shadow or telling others to get bent as an initial reflex.

If that's the world you want to live in, great. I've done it my way and have yet to encounter a single serial killer.

I understand Frank's point of view as well. My mother would tell me stories of my grandfather who was a Methodist minister bringing hobos home for a meal. This was during the Great Depression. It is important to have situational awareness without downright paranoia and hypervigilance.

Granted, I wasn’t there and am only trying to surmise an entire situation based on a few sentences on the internet.

Because sitting in your car and someone at your window, you are in a vulnerable position—completely defensive. Hand on the gun is a prudent move.

I'm half your age...
I wouldn't have apologized and I wouldn't have rolled the window down.

You did just fine.

Should have said, "Where is your car? Show me the key in the ignition.

Which would have required leaving the car. Tell him to call the PD. We in the past did lockouts but newer cars done response to the old coat hanger or slim Jim method. Or they can give him a lift home. Smaller towns will do that for residents.

Same here. It's as simple as making eye contact and shaking your head "no." Nothing rude about it, in fact, I think of it as doing both of us a service by saving time.

Store parking lot? The guy can go inside and ask for help. It's what I would do instead of approaching random people in a parking lot, but maybe that's just me. That's assuming I somehow locked my cell phone in the car, too....

Feller younger than me, I'm 77, my height, stocky.

I rolled down the window, I lifted my shirt put my hand on my AIWB G19.

He said "I've locked myself out of my car, can you give me a lift?
I live right over there".

He pointed to an area which had no real residences.

There are several red flags here. First, a strange person knocking on your window. This day and time that's pretty aggressive. Second, your age relative to his. Feels like you might have been profiled. Third, "I live right over there". Far too vague, which makes it very suspicious.

Your instincts were screaming at you. You were smart to listen.

I don't think I've ever been approached in a parking lot by a person who wasn't up to something whether it be begging or something perhaps more nefarious. Stay away from me. Stay away from my car. I got no money for you. I'm not giving you a ride. I don't want to see your petition. You cannot use my phone.

You did more than I would have.
I would have told him 'NO' before ever hearing what he had to say..

I do that at least once a week at the Fuel City by my place of employment.

That comes from living in Dallas for 58 years...

As Rick Lee stated, if he could point to where he lived, he could have walked there..
That is what I would have done in his situation...

Sadly, it's not the world we want to live in, it's the world we have to live in. I well remember as a young teenager hitch hiking all the time to get somewhere. We never gave any thought to the fact that there may be danger there.

Times have changed.
