The "black girl magic" line? That's a phrase that's been around a while now, it's just your regular "girl power!" nonsense, with color. Anybody saying it seriously past the age of 13 ought to be ignored.

Like you said, pandering. None of it has to be good, it just has to check some boxes and it's declared a success, even if it flops. Shit, especially if it flops. Team Rodent has more money than God already, so they can take the financial hit, while looking like heroes to the blue-haired Portland landwhales who hate their dad.

This phrase and “girl boss” have been around for a bit.

And anyone that uses either is promptly dismissed by me.

"Girl boss" just means you got suckered into some MLM scam, and now try and sell dildos and candles to all your friends and family.

Movie Industry: "superhero fatigue"

Translation: "we aren't/can't/won't make good superhero movies anymore"

If they make some more good ones I will gladly see them

For me it was Ant Man

They didn't take themselves too seriously like most superhero movies do and it wasn't preachy or woke, just fun.

1. The whole comic book superhero movie thing has been beat to death and people are sick of it all

2. Movie theaters are rapidly dying, they were struggling before Covid but Covid finished them off. I was at an opening night movie with the wife (Big Fat Greek Wedding 3) and it was really sad to see 12 whole people in the theater at 7 pm on a Friday night for a movie's opening night and half of them were the theater staff. It's just not sustainable any longer in the age of 60-80 inch TV's and streaming platforms and options galore

3. People aren't willing any longer to pay 15 bucks for a movie ticket and then 10 bucks for a drink or candy/popcorn

4. Many people aren’t willing to do with smartphone interruption all through a movie they paid twenty bucks to see. Millennials and Gen Z killed the cineplexes as much or more than anything else. They’ve killed society and social anything IMO.

Exactly! Idiots on their phones before and during the movie, talking loudly all through the movie. I remember taking my nephew to the Avengers in 2012. We went on a Sunday night, late showing, to avoid these scenarios. We sat upper top row middle, maybe 6 other people in the theater. 10 minutes into the movie a couple comes in with their new born and 3 year old and sits top row. Their kids balled and made noise for about an hour before they fell asleep. It was the last public movie I went to. I have my own home theater now and just wait for the disks to be released. I am a curmudgeon I guess Smile

Hollywood has never had much imagination. Most of the films ever made have been mediocre.

If you're familiar with film history, you understand that film producers honestly don't know what will resonate with the public.

An example: Frank Capra's It Happened One Night.

"fter filming was done, Colbert complained to her friend, "I just finished the worst picture in the world". Columbia appeared to have low expectations for the film and did not mount much of an advertising campaign for it..."

The film was nominated for five Academy Awards and won all five categories, and it has become one of the top-rated films of all time.

That's just one example. There are countless instances of this kind of thing.

This is why, when producers find a formula that makes money, they beat it to death, such as the God-awful Fast and Furious films; utter garbage, but these films make money.

they just don't know and even with more than a century of experience to build upon, they're actually getting farther away from their target. Just look at what they've done to Star Wars. They've turned it into incomprehensible trash.

Stupid assholes could announce and release an Ultra hi-def remaster of the Theatrical version of the original trilogy, both in theaters and on bluray and wake up the next morning with a couple billion dollars in their pockets.

God I hate Disney so much. Lucas isn't guilt-free either. Star Wars won awards for stuff that he turned around and removed from the movie for his ego-driven Special Edition bullshit.

Sorry... the cultural vandalism Disney is involved in is so disgusting.

That’s exactly right, Para. Hollywood doesn’t know the formula for what the public wants and in spite of their claims to the contrary, they are not making art as a rule. Every once in awhile Hollywood will produce a good one but I think it’s almost accidental because they don’t understand their audience and most of all, they don’t care. Reminds me of the auto industry. Today, everything is formulaic. There is no imagination in production car design like the old days.

That's a symptom of the problem, but not the root cause. It's all about promoting "The Message." This was easy back during the Trump days when studios had buckets of cash. Now it's a different story and hurting Disney far more since they spent hundreds of billions buying Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Fox.

LOL - I kid you not that I would not even be aware of this movie if it were not for the number of “why it failed” articles I’ve seen crowbarred into my feed.
