and the diagnostics read out in plain English on a $30 scanner.

This is something I've never understood. In today's world, why do we need a scanner? Why can't the car diagnose itself?

If the screen fails that is used for diagnostics, certain self diagnostics system failures. On CAN and BUS systems, scanner is better.
They would have to integrate ABS, Transmission, Engine, EVAP, Cameras, all into one diagnostic deal.
Scanner is way more better, especially for home use.

I was one of the crowd that looked at EV and said, 'nah, not for me'.

Hear me out. After doing some digging and pondering, I think there is a place in most household for an EV. No, I didn't say all EV but a EV.

Pros for EV.
1. less maintenance. There no oil change, transmission fluid, differential fluid, coolant.
2. it's cheaper on the wallet for electricity/gas.
3. yes, there is degradation of the battery. but the odd of a complete battery replacement is about par on you needing a new engine or transmission.

lastly, for us getting older...I see the Full Auto Driving a last grasp for independence for the elderly.

I think for most household that has 2 vehicles, there should be a discussion if one of those can be an EV.

No, I am not an EV proponent because it is good for the environment.

They did, but that was in 1987. If you had a Cadillac, you could press 'Off' and 'Warmer' on the climate controls and all error codes would present themselves on the display.

Then you could read the ABS codes ECM and BCM inputs, outputs, emerging codes, history codes, injector cross counts, pulse width, etc...

EVs DEFINITELY have Coolant, and Oil(s), which cool and lubricate the Differential(s) and other major components of the 'power train'. Actually, the Cooling System in a Tesla quite a bit more complex than that of an ICE vehicle, in that it has two separate loops, with separate pumps; One that cools the ECU and the Battery Modules, and another that's for the Power-Train, which cools the PCS (Power Conversion System - Charger & DC-DC Converter), the Inverter and the cools an Oil to Water Plate Heat Exchanger to cool the Gear Box and Differential Oil(s). It even has an Oil Pump with an Oil Filter. Unlike an ICE vehicle, the cooling system can and does run when the car is not running. And just like an ICE vehicle, you should change the fluids periodically.

^ same. I really wish my 78 year old mother would get one... But my [deceased] father was against them as a matter of an anti-woke stance. Plus she does not want to let go of his [nice] car (She could swing it, but is too financially conservative to have both)

FWIW:
- If my Tacoma got totaled out today I 100% would buy a CPO Tesla-3
- Come ~2028 I am heavily leaning towards selling the '16 Tacoma for a Slate
- Financial windfall, I'm getting a Tesla 3p (Red w/ white interior and FSD)
