There is no ADAS on this.

I’m excited for it. Made in the USA. This will replace my current 12 year old daily driver. I want to wait for others to be beta testers first however. Definitely planning on buying one.

Hopefully the production truck will come with tires from an American company, unlike Jay’s Prototype.

The best thing about this is that it's not like that at all. It's simple, minimalist, and specifically designed to be user-serviceable. I wish more companies were doing stuff like this. I don't love that it's electric, but if I'm honest most of the stuff I use my truck for the range won't be an issue. The downside is I'd be giving up a lot of hauling capability that I actually use going from a 3/4 ton truck with an 8' bed to this thing.

I can't afford to spend $25,000 on a truck, and I've currently got one that suits my needs better than this would anyway, but maybe in 5-10 years when that one finishes rusting into a pile I might consider a used one of these. It's more than capable of hauling my little boat to the lake, it'll still fit drywall and plywood with the tailgate down (just not as much at once)...hauling firewood would be the toughest thing because I regularly stick 2500-3000lbs in the back of my Chevy and the frame of this thing would be sitting on the ground if I did that.

Meh. I like Continental (Ze Germans) and Pirellis (Italian) for 4 wheelers and Bridgestone (Japanese) for 2 wheelers anyhow. It’s the least concern I have.

I already have a truck but this Slate makes for a cheap daily vs. a hatchback, sedan, etc, and you get a bed. Or you can get the CUV version if you need to tote rear seat passengers. I’ll keep the bed and it’s cheaper. Will save a lot of miles on my truck and make it last way longer. I’ve always been of the mindset of put the donkey miles on your daily or commuter and keep the miles off your more expensive shit. + if you have solar it’s free juice. Even if you don’t, most places kWh is much cheaper than gas.

And we are sitting on the biggest lithium deposit in SW Arkansas for battery making here in the USA. Hopefully Slate is partnering up with them to build the batteries for it right here vs. China.

That’s not really my point, I enjoy myself some tires that aren’t American made as well.
However of the points of this truck is to as much of everything possible made in the United States. I get with our manufacturing system it’s not possible (financially) for some things to be produced in America.
But tires are something there are actually quite a few options that are really good, already out there, made in America by an American owned company, and they slap some Kendas on it. Really?

EV's don't have to go through CARB testing for that or EPA.. That is a HUGE cost savings!

I purchased a house and an acre of land in Almont, Colorado in the 80’s.

I flew in to Gunnison, went to a used car lot and bought a 7o’s GMC pick-up - 3 + Granny on the floor, manually engaged 4WD, no radio or A/C, only power steering. Great f*cking truck for my English Bull Terrier, hauling horse feed (or anything else) by the ton. And I could fix anything on it.

My ex-wife got the house, truck, horses and dog in the divorce - I really miss my dog.

In the grand scheme of things that’s a petty thing to be concerned with. Is it made in America? Providing American jobs? If so that is good enough for most. I don’t keep stock wheels on any of my vehicles anyways. Aftermarket options have gotten relatively inexpensive and flow formed cast wheels are now as light as forged. Their goal is to keep cost down so it’ll have cheap ass tires guaranteed. But I’m used to replacing them. I rarely like any tires any of my vehicles have come with new and sell them within 1000 miles of ownership.

Petty maybe, but they are touting being American made and they slap some Taiwanese tires on there when there are tons of American owned and made tires in the same price range.
All of which are better than Kenda. Cooper and General have tires the same size and cost as Kenda.

According to the Jay Leno video, it is rear wheel drive only. That will kill sales in half the country.

All my cars have been FWD or RWD, never felt it was a deterrent. Never owned a 4WD/AWD.
But, I'm also in Houston, where AWD isn't much of a benefit.

All you have seen is a prototype vehicle for one. That was not a production vehicle.

You just have an axe to grind. I guess everyone needs to be outraged about something. My truck is a Japanese make but it was at the top of this list for years.

Most every truck sold is going to have parts from suppliers made outside the US. Do some research on this subject first.

You clearly are not fully reading my posts and continue to miss my point.
I mentioned I am WELL AWARE it is only a prototype.
I also mentioned I am WELL AWARE that due to American manufacturing capabilities and financial restraints there are going to be non American parts on it. I am well versed on that.
However the company touts how American manufactured they are focused yet side step a part it is easily obtained from an American owned and manufactured company at the same/similar price.
But we’ll just leave it at that and agree to disagree on it being important or not.

You’re right. If it’s being touted as American made or bringing jobs back to America, then it should come with made in the USA tires. It's a simple thing to do and your point was clear from the beginning. I'm not sure what to call dedicating three posts to argue otherwise. Confused

I like the concept of simplicity since Ive come to dislike a lot, not all, of the new tech crammed into cars these days which drives up the cost and adds unnecessary complexity to the average automobile. I might be all in on a Slate if it wasn't for the EV power plant, if they built one with a 4 cylinder engine and the price was right I could be an owner. EV's work for some people but an EV wouldn't work for me. Wish them all the success in the world since it may motivate the Jap and American automobile companies to start building simpler cars for people who don't want or need all the tech incorporated in today's cars.

Yup, EV is not for me, either. Anyway you look at it, it's still in its infancy stage. Make a gas powered version and I'll be in.

You guys that want a ICE in this truck are missing the point. It's not possible due to CAFE standards.

I don't think we're missing the point just sharing our thoughts on the Slate and nothing wrong with saying we'd be in if the Slate had a gas engine. Anythings possible with a bit of time, money and ingenuity.
