This is something I've never understood. In today's world, why do we need a scanner? Why can't the car diagnose itself?

If the screen fails that is used for diagnostics, certain self diagnostics system failures. On CAN and BUS systems, scanner is better.
They would have to integrate ABS, Transmission, Engine, EVAP, Cameras, all into one diagnostic deal.
Scanner is way more better, especially for home use.

Hear me out. After doing some digging and pondering, I think there is a place in most household for an EV. No, I didn't say all EV but a EV.

Pros for EV.
1. less maintenance. There no oil change, transmission fluid, differential fluid, coolant.
2. it's cheaper on the wallet for electricity/gas.
3. yes, there is degradation of the battery. but the odd of a complete battery replacement is about par on you needing a new engine or transmission.

lastly, for us getting older...I see the Full Auto Driving a last grasp for independence for the elderly.

I think for most household that has 2 vehicles, there should be a discussion if one of those can be an EV.

No, I am not an EV proponent because it is good for the environment.

They did, but that was in 1987. If you had a Cadillac, you could press 'Off' and 'Warmer' on the climate controls and all error codes would present themselves on the display.

Then you could read the ABS codes ECM and BCM inputs, outputs, emerging codes, history codes, injector cross counts, pulse width, etc...
