Better stock up on bread, milk, and eggs... We've got snow incoming! Looks like a widespread 6+ inches of snow is in store across northern Texas, most of Oklahoma, and northern Arkansas tomorrow into Wednesday. NWA is expected to get 6-10+ inches, which is above average for a snowfall around here. We tend to get 1-3 inches several times per year, 4-8 inches once or twice a year, and 12+ inches every few years. This also means Wednesday is sure to be a shitshow on the roads, since in my experience nearly nobody around here knows what the hell to do once the white stuff sticks to the road. At least it won't be -20 degrees like the last round of snow we got just before Christmas. And it's supposed to be basically all snow, instead of the nasty ice storms that we get from time to time. Stay warm, stay home (if you can), and enjoy that French toast that everyone apparently craves on snow days.

We will get it after you… WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM TUESDAY TO 9 PM CST WEDNESDAY... * WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 5 and 10 inches. My wife will probably work from home on Wednesday. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

The local news is reporting that the City of OKC street department is spraying some sort of beet juice, from sugar beets, on the road surfaces now instead of the traditional deicing chemicals previously used. Supposedly this is the newest latest and greatest thing. I don't know but this sounds kind of high tech redneck engineering, lol. "OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — Oklahoma City's Public Works Department tested a brine and beet solution on Sunday, with the goal of de-icing roads more efficiently than salt. The beet solution is used in many northern cities including Calgary, Washington DC, and Cincinnati. Experts say it can work in colder temperatures than salt and is more cost-effective. Sunday morning Oklahoma City treated 11 bridges and overpasses with a brine beet solution to see how well the potion performs. "Most of the mixture is a beet juice product and it's all organic, it's all very eco-friendly," said Oklahoma City Public Works Emergency Manager, Mike Love Jr. "It's supposed to give us a colder working temperature, sometimes in the negatives, it just depends on the percentage of mixture." The solution does not stain the roads or damage vehicles, and the cities that already use it, praise it. "Talking with other cities and other applicators, they swear by it," Love said, "This has been going on for 20 years everywhere else but here. So hopefully it brings us a little bit closer to cutting edge and it really does affect the city and our citizens." The brine can penetrate hard-pack snow, which experts say is one of the most dangerous things on the roads after a winter event. "Hard-pack especially when it's cold, salt does not penetrate it, and a plow will ride on top of it," said Love. "It is the hardest thing to break up, and most east-west streets with high buildings like our downtown area, that stuff can hold past an event for five to six days, this product is supposed to be able to punch through that at a saturation point without sunlight." Not only can the brine work on colder temperatures, but it also expands the city's operating ability, while also saving them money. "It's just to make us more effective and have more units in the field with our existing budget and with the workforce being the way it is these days, it's not getting any bigger but the city is not getting any smaller," Love said. The city is very hopeful that the beet brine solution will benefit the city and Oklahomans during winter weather, and will continue to monitor its performance this week as we face some icy conditions. lINK TO STORY

Interesting it's being used as a deicer. Beet juice is often used to fill rear tractor tires for ballast (mine are filled with the stuff) as it's heavier than water, has a low freezing temp, non corrosive, and ecologically friendly should you get a puncture (unlike antifreeze or salt water). No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

^^^ learn something new every day. In my mid-20s working for a GC, I remembered tearing out part of the third floor of a sugarbeet factory and reconstructing it. Huge machinery in there; epic!
