My 8 year old iPad is giving up the ghost. Living on the edge of storage memory and I've got to constantly jockey apps and I'm running with the bare minimum for my needs. Slooooow and will crash now and again if I'm not vigilant with app house keeping.

So, thinking about the regular iPad which prices out at $329 for 32gb and $429 for the 128gb. (don't need cellular) or the iPad min which only comes in 128gb for $399. Since I've had issues with storage I'm leaning towards the 128gb but I'm somewhat intrigued by the portability of the mini.

Any input from the SF mind trust?

Definitely go 128gb. I did the small memory on an iPhone once and hated it.

I have a 9.7" iPad Pro (original) and it's still going and I like the form factor. I have had a mini (first gen) in the past and my kids have two of them - they are nice but a bit small IMO, but it really depends what you are using it for.

Mine doubles as a poor mans computer when I'm working on side, but if you are just browsing / gaming, a mini might be ok for your needs.

Might be worth a trip to the Best Buy or Apple store just to check out the sizes.

I've seen the full sized iPad Pros and they are too big for what I want an iPad to do.

Definitely go for the bigger storage. Love my iPad, but don’t see any reason to get the newest and greatest. I think you are on the right track, but IMHO 128 is a minimum. I had a 32 in the past and had to delete stuff if I rented movies etc.

If you’ve had storage issues in the past chances are good you’ll encounter them again. Opt for the larger capacity model.

The bigger capacity, certainly. You may get better deals in the refurb one online.

Are you stuck on the iPad? I traded mine off to my kids and got a cheap ASUS laptop that's been great for me.

Thanks. I've got a nice laptop. I use the iPad for reading the morning paper on my throne, reading books, and browsing/shopping. I tried to substitute my LT for those tasks but even though it's small, light and thin it's a lot more to handle than an iPad.

I'm going to check them out at Bestbuy.

if you're not doing anything that needs the bigger size screen (from the list above, I'd say probably not) then the ipad mini might be a good fit. My wife has a Mini and has enjoyed it.

i've seen art students at school taking notes, using apps for photo editing and even digital art stuff with the bigger Ipad Pro's, and they're super cool, but without the necessity, anything too big is probably superfluous.

I had a mini first, because I could keep it in the pocket of a white coat. But I’ve found the full-size much more functional for everything, so I’d recommend getting the larger screen iPad.

if you’re just surfing & 128 storage isn’t a concern, there’s deals on eBay. I got a new gen 6 with 32 gigs for $250.

Take a look at Gazelle.com...you might be able to find a pretty good deal on a refurbished iPad. Got my last one from there at a good price, but unfortunately I could only find a 32mb...wanted a 64mb.

If you're Active or a Retiree, there was a 10% discount Apple was promoting around Christmas; not sure if was a special or a new policy or if it was only for certain models. May be worth checking out.

Ipad's (wifi version) don't have an internal GPS antennae unless they're the cellular verson. Keep that in mind if you want to use any kind of app on it that requires gps.

I'd go for the 128 GB version from what you've said and the regular ipad should meet your needs.

If your an Xfinity, Comcast, customer you can get an IPad 6th Gen 128g WiFi 9.7 for $5/month or $120. Deal is through end of February. At least in my market. I have one on the way. You do have to have certain services to qualify which we already have with them. You can pay monthly or just pay it in full after first billing. It’s an excellent deal if you qualify.

WOW! Eek Eek That is a fantastic deal. It is the current 128gb model, new is $429, refurb $369.

For that price, I jumped on one myself. I have the 2018 12.9 Pro and a Mini 4, but my wife is using an 64gb Air2 that is getting a bit long in the tooth.

I was concerned when the fine print said “new customers”, I am not a new customer. Order went through though and added to my account so looks good to go.

Where on xfinity's site did you order it? I googled it and it said for new customers so I stopped there. I'll order one for that price too if I can. I have the Ipad pro 12.9 and the Mini 2, ironically.

https://www.xfinity.com/ipad

It says new customers, but click on the “Add to my plan” button it takes you to another screen, log in to your account and go from there.

When all done should come back with an “Approval” message and order number

For what? I’ve never seen a need. I have 256gb model, 1800+ photos, 4500+ songs, 10-12 full length movies, 100+ apps and I am just barely over the half way point.

I think the lack of expandable memory is overblown for all but a very few folks.
