OK, I found a Budweiser beer that doesn't suck! This weekend, I puppy sat for a friend, I went to the store and liquor store, I went to the liquor store looking for Wild Turkey Rare Breed for my neighbor that took me to get my car. Well, they didn't have any. As I was leaving I saw a display of Budweiser, it was different looking, so I checked it out. It was Budweiser Copper Lager. Aged on Jim Beam Bourbon barrel staves. Well, it was cheap enough to take a risk so I bought a six pack of bottles. I must say it is good. Not awesome, not great but honestly good. I'm going to get some more. Who knew they had it in them? They did well. ARman

I saw an add for that on tv just yesterday. It mentioned using bourbon barrels in the aging process and I believe it had Vanilla and Carmel flavors. Looks like I might have to pick up a six and give it a try.

The Budweiser Freedom Reserve was decent, too - this coming from someone who won't drink Budweiser if it's free.

The Budweiser from the Czech Republic tastes better than the American version.

Isn't Bud the #1 selling beer in America? For a suck beer they do seem to sell well.

Used to be, now I believe it’s 3rd. Bud Light is the #1 seller, followed by Coors Light _______________________________________________________ despite them

Budweiser is great beer. It is a Bohemian style lager, made with the ingredients readily available in America at the time of it's creation. It has endured for over 140 years, and been exported to the far corners of the globe. If you travel to Ireland and other areas of Europe you will see young folks guzzling it down, and loving every minute of it. The current trend of ever increasing hops content combined with over the top ABV is in my opinion just that, a trend. A trend that can't go away soon enough. Case in point: every single time I have a party at my house, which is quite often, I load a 110 quart cooler up with Bud Heavy and Miller Lite. After the guests have left, all the Bud and Miller is gone, and in it's place is a steaming pile of foul tasting hipster beers with names like "hop attack", or "the hop monster" and so forth. Apparently the folks that brought that shit had one or two, and ditched the rest. I'm all for new things, but when you try a beer from a micro brewery that's advertised as a lager or pilsner, and it still tastes like an IPA, there is a problem.

It's not you, it's me. |
When I drank (A lot), I probably could have been considered a beer snob, I'd always have all kinds of crazy brews in my fridge, go to breweries for visits, etc... Even then, I really didn't mind Budweiser and still think it's not too bad. I'd rather drink a Bud Heavy than a Coors Lite or Miller Lite.

I don't know why so many denigrate Bud or Miller or any of the standard brew types that have been present for many generations. Of the two predominate beer types by definition are lagers or ales. Each different because of it's fermenting process. The brewing process is quite fascinating. Lagers (Pilsner) have been dominating forever. They should not be denigrated if your taste changes. All beers should be celebrated as sacred regardless of the formula. Be thankful for the upswing of a plethora of craft brewers that can provide virtually any combination of ingredients to achieve whatever makes you happy. FWIW I do love Hops! Respect them all and drink the ones you want. Plenty to choose from so drink one "Cheers".

My thoughts exactly. I don't understand the hatred and shade that gets thrown at classic American brew.

I drink the “hipster snobby hop fad” beers. There’s far more to craft beer than hop bombs. Most brewers make a standard blonde, Vienna lager or pilsner and they’re amazing. Yes IPAs dominate the taps right now but it’s what sells and the breweries are businesses that ignore trends at their own peril. I drank plenty of bud light and other light beers in the past. I can still drink a Miller Lite and not be bothered but the taste is so neutral as to be nonexistent to me. I don’t drink AB products anymore for a couple reasons. First reason: They’re playing dirty with craft brewers. AB does everything possible to push craft beers off the shelf and taps. They’ve been busted pulling their underhanded anticompetitive shit for years. Second reason: AB beers make me sick, literally. Something they use tears my stomach up and gives me a headache before I can finish even half a bottle. AB is an amazing beast. Brewing something that light and that consistent worldwide is impressive. They also have the skill to brew anything they please but for the most part they stick to what makes money and that’s just smart business.

[cliff claven] Interesting IPA's are not really a "fad beer" by design. On the ale side of production IPA's were developed to allow (pale) ales to last longer. A normal Pale Ale has a closer balance of malt & hops. IPA's are higher hop ratio. FWIW, I discovered IPA's by accident when years ago my wife brought some home from the grocery store. I liked the bitter(er) taste compared to the normal Pale Ales I usually got and in general I've always preferred the ales over the lagers. [/cliff claven] Cheers! (again)

Could be, but they actually bought a local craft brewer here called Karbach Brewery. They are stronger than ever at least here locally they are. Also one of my favorites and not just their IPA variety.

I'm a beer snob and I'll freely admit it. I don't have anything against Budweiser, Coors or any beer like that but I prefer beer with taste. Right now it's Founder's Mosaic Promise and I'll take Founders over anything. All Day IPA, Mosaic, their Stout and Porter. Drink what you like though. To each his/her own. I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I'm not.
