What is happening with the climate, if anything? If it’s all a hoax, why?

Yes, I know it’s probable that your position is based on more than one of the simple responses offered. It’s impossible, though, to address all the possible beliefs in detail in a poll like this. Please select the one that you’re most certain about or reflects your position most strongly, especially as regards the hoax question. What are we being lied to about? Feel free to explain.

Question:
?

Choices:
Nothing. It’s staying the same.
It’s getting warmer due to natural forces/processes.
It’s getting warmer due at least in part to human activity.
It’s getting warmer primarily because of human activity.
Temperatures are rising, but that doesn’t change the climate.
It’s getting cooler for some reason(s).
No one really knows. It can’t truly be measured.
The apparent environmental changes are not due to temperature changes.
Other. Please explain your view.

Hard to say, but I live in a heavily glaciated area.

There used to literally be 3 miles of ice above my house, not all that long ago geologically speaking. That’s much higher up than most of the air traffic in this area.

The planet is not all that big. There are a lot of people doing stuff on this rock. Shitload of cars running around and houses need heated and cooled. It's got to have some effect.

I chose "other." Nothing in my college years of geology and anthropology gave me any notion that the climate has ever been anything but a continuously changing thing. I do believe that we might be able to contribute to processes like desertification, the Dustbowl from the depression era as a result of farming practices that didn't preserve the topsoil being an example. But do I think we're causing either global warming or cooling, or doing anything to permanently impact the climate? Not in a way that the planet cares about or would necessarily reflect, no. I think the notion that we're killing the planet is a gross overestimation of the ability of this primate species and possibly the acme of hubris.

In the history of our planet ice caps and large glaciers are not the norm. The climate is ever changing.

Research the origins of "Green Cross International" and the series of programs advancing an agenda on the pretext of environmental concerns and you'll be on the right track.

The hoax is the policies introduced by Western democracies that attempt to deal with climate change by adopting socialism. Higher taxes, less freedom, massive wealth transfers to the 2nd and 3rd world are not the solution, and it's likely that they were not conceived of as a solution to anything other than liberal white guilt.

While it is quite certain that the world's climate is changing, the models to date have been inaccurate, the predictions consistently wrong, and the end state remains unknown. A warmer earth could conceivably allow for more arable land and better crop yields, focusing on only negative outcomes is not science.

Crippling industry and invention with layers of oppressive government is counter productive. And the most dangerous outcome to date has been the ascension of politicians who are more ignorant and incompetent than any in history.

Other:

I believe it is cyclical, and driven by the sun. Variations in solar output and changes in solar wind likely account for most of the variation in Earth's climate. Geological processes such as volcanoes can contribute as well to a lesser extent.

How do we explain the climate during the age of dinosaurs? It was warmer than it is now, had higher sea levels than we do now, and had higher concentrations of CO2 than we do now. That can't have been caused by humans.

The earth is billions of years old. Human existence is such a minor blip in its history that it is virtually unmeasurable. Long after human kind ceases to exist, the earth will continue on. The idea that insignificant mortals can "destroy" the earth is laughable and the height of self-important arrogance. Now we might be able to screw up our time on it, but that's a different story.

Have we we screwing up the environment? Yes. Since the industrial revolution kicked off, the amount of pollutants we've dumped directly or indirectly has been quite a bit. But the developed world has been doing a lot to lower their impact. Factories are doing a better job today than 60-70 years ago.

Problem is Climate Change has become a buzz word for political leverage. Politicians use it to get elected. Activists use it for making money. And no one wants to address the real polluters: China and India. North America and Europe can go total green tonight, and it won't register when the worlds two biggest polluters just keep going. But when I buy another Wrangler instead of an electric car, or toss a glass bottle into the trash instead of recycling, I'm some how the villain. And then Al Gore or Leo DiCaprio take private jets to exotic locals for a 'climate conference', scold us for not doing better, well, they care, so ignore the damage their jets and Hollywood lifestyles are doing. Mad

I would like to see more care being made toward the environment. More a Teddy Roosevelt Conservationist than an Angry Greta type. Preserve the wild lands we do have, encourage recycling more, get back to making durable goods durable. It would be nice to road trip through the country and not see two or three new "Coming Soon: New housing development". Instead of building new McMansions, have developers acquire old neighborhoods and rebuild there. Just a thought. Maybe it is a pet peeve of mine, but it would be nice to have a day or two in the neighborhood where someone isn't running power tools, leaf blowers, lawn mowers, ect. non stop. I'm beginning to like the idea the German practice of Sunday is a no work day, enjoy the quiet day.

The hoax isn't that the climate is changing, because of course it changes.

The hoax is in convincing the people that the climate is not supposed to change. Ever.

Climate change deniers? Yes, they exist, but it's not the people they're telling you they are. It's the people looking back at them in the mirror.

Back in the late 90's to early 2000's I had a college professor that was NOT into the global warming. He showed us proof and data that this is a natural cooling and heating cycle every so many hundreds or thousands of years. This I believe. God Bless Smile

We should be good stewards of Mother Earth but the Climate Change “hoax” is more of a “scam” than anything.

I answered "No one really knows. It can't truly be measured".

The question that seems to end the conversation with any green activist: Precisely how many tons of carbon must be removed from the atmosphere to drop the average global temperature 1 degree centigrade? I've not met one activist that doesn't get really pissed at that question. Should be an easy answer if the science is settled.

The hoax is that we, mankind, are responsible for climate change and thus are responsible for fixing it.
