I just saw this thread and that was the first thing I thought about.

The driver picking it up?

It has to be dropped off at a hub for shipment and the desc clerk notified that it is a firearm.

I am sorry for all your troubles with Fed Ex.

I dread any time a seller I have purchased from, ships me anything by FedEx, the drivers always ringing the doorbell, delivering sometimes as late as 9 pm.

The UPS drivers on the other hand get here before noon, one driver has been on my route for the past 5 years.

Hope your issue is resolved.

I sent my 617 in to smith for repair. They repaired it and shipped it back. I came home to find a fed ex box on my porch. I called smith. They were like' yep. We sent it.'

They gave no tracking info, work order, or heads up that it was comming.

Fed ex just left it on the porch. No signature no nothing.

On top of that smith did not do any of the work i had asked for in my work order. They just repaired it anf shipped it back.

Had an IPhone sent by a company via FedEx and they never delivered it to my house. I was home all day long but they said it was delivered. Called fedex THAT day and they argued that it was because the driver told them it was delivered to my house. I feel your frustration. Last year, I think it was, I sold a bunch of P938 mags to someone from here or ARF and USPS delivered a ripped open package with two mags and a note that it was damaged. Fortunately I insured it and was able to refund all the money he spent and for his trouble I gifted the two mags. I took a loss on that one as I have e the guy a really good price. At least USPS admitted and covered the incident.

The ATF does have a place and method for reporting lost or stolen firearms from an FFL or in transit.

What does this saga have anything to do with FedEx, which is the topic of this thread? Wink
Your "smith" was a moron, plain and simple. FedEx? Zero fault in this.

I think this happened before we met. Its been exactly a month. I'll definitely have you do it from now on.

Me too! I sent a frame and barrel to be refinished at a Business That Shall Not be Named. When I got it back it was sitting on the door mat at my front door. Amazed me. I have to jump through hoops to ship it, and to get it back they just leave it no signature or nuthin'?!

FedEx really steamed me in January when they quoted me $105 to ship a pistol from Ohio to New Hampshire, insured. They insisted it had to be shipped priority overnight, first delivery. I simply thanked them for their time and left for my FFL.

If I understand correctly you had a driver pick up from your door OR you dropped the package at a Fed Ex hub for driver pick up. Both of which are bad ideas when shipping firearms. Here in the Phoenix area they will not accept a gun at a hub. You have to go to their shipping office location that handles hazardous goods. They get shipped overnight so I reduce the amount of time in transit. Haven't yet had a problem in all these years.

Hopefully Fed Ex makes this right and pays you up the limit of what you insured the package for.

My state that is not the case. Fed Ex hub is where you are required to go, but so is overnight shipping.

I have shipped several long guns via UPS and Fedex (they are next door to each other), with the rate between the two being the determining factor. Each time, I generate the shipping label at home and apply the insurance amount myself so I know it's done correctly. I know once I drop it at the hub, it's on them to get it where it needs to go, but this way, I know all of the i's are dotted and t's crossed because I did it and have a record of it without having to argue with them.

I hope you get this resolved favorably.

Yet out here in Wickenburg, I can go to Kaley's Vacuum and Sewing Machine repair shop, which is also an authorized shipping agent for FedEx and UPS. They have researched all of the regs with each shipper, and will take guns, no problem. They even saved me on my last shipment telling me it could go overnight afternoon delivery, or even 2nd day air (I forget which shipper was which on that). I have used them for shipping guns half a dozen times. The FedEx or UPS driver that is on their route picks up outgoing packages late in the afternoon, and they are transported to the central facility in Phoenix directly.

The smith was smith and wesson. And fed ex left a pistol on my front porch when over 21 signature was required and no one was home. I should also clarify that the gun was sent from my ffl. Via my work order number. It should have been returned to the ffl, but was instead dropped on my porch.

I think his Smith was Smith (Wesson) and the same happened to me. They replaced the frame on a 642 (new serial) and it was left on my porch. S&W is to blame for not requesting a signature.

Lots of important details missing from your OP, which would have rendered my post unnecessary, had they been posted initially:
1- "And fed ex left a pistol on my front porch when over 21 signature was required and no one was home." - FedEx's fault.
2- "I should also clarify that the gun was sent from my ffl....It should have been returned to the ffl, but was instead dropped on my porch." - S&W is still moron. Wink

No debate on the smith and wesson. The reason it had to go to them via my ffl is that they would not accept a gun with out their shipping label. The morons could not manage to send the shipping label to any of my 3 email accounts. So i went to my ffl and handwrote my work order that included all the work to be done. . He charged me less than the fed ex hub. Yet i am at a loss as to how they got my address. I did not write it on the work order. For all they new, it was my ffls pistol.

Last Sept, when the iPhone 7 came out, I order 3 on the same day from AT&T. They were pre-orders so they were being sent via Fed Ex....Let the shit show begin!

On the day they were supposed to arrive I get a weird notification stating that I had to go the Fed Ex hub (royal PIA) to pick them up. I get there and the girl explains to me that die to security concerns this was the being done as a precaution. She proceeds to locate 2 of 3 phones and cannot find #3 anywhere. Just about the time when my blood is starting to boil I get a call from my daughter who tells me she almost tripped over a Fed Ex package on the front step....I have her open it and it is phone 3, no signatire and sitting in broad daylight on my step!

I have shipped several pistols over the years to S&W, SIG, and to gunsmiths such as GGI and Robert Burke, and Rick Holm (ex-GGI H&K specialist, and owner of Lazy Wolf guns). I have always driven to the UPS hub and declared the contents, and insured for full value. I always request signature-required return shipping. Never had a problem. I would be very uncomfortable with any return gun shipments delivered to my home w/o a signature required. I have never used Fed-Ex.

I also have my SGA bulk ammo purchases held at the UPS hub for me to pick up. I do not want guns or bulk ammo left at my door during the day when I am not home. I imagine this would not be possible if I did not live near a hub. How do guys living in remote rural areas ship guns?
