The wife wants water level selection, large capacity, and a "Delicate" setting, of course.

Whirlpool Cabrio Platinum is our current W/D. They're about 11-12yrs old & still work well. The Enemy's gate is down.

That's what we're replacing. It's got the bearing problem no repair person wants to deal with. It washes but shuts off during spin cycle as an unbalanced load and no amount of trying to manually balance the load woks. I've had it with this thing. The dryer still works well.

Ah, we've avoided anything like that & it's tackled some large loads with 5 of us in the house. The dryer has been more finicky, throws a check vent error often & had an odd thump [something rotational] that we never found and just went away on its own. The Enemy's gate is down.

We bought the Maytag Bravos XL washer and dryer several years ago. We’ve had no issues with the washer. A few minor issues with the dryer - thermistor had to be replaced a couple of times along with the pulley for the belt. Neither were that difficult to replace nor very expensive parts (<$20 or so). I blame the failure on running multiple large loads 4-5 days a week when we still had kids at home.

We have the top of the line Maytag top loader for about 4 years and I have yet to hear my wife say something nice about it. From water level to bunching up of clothes to the shelf holding the dispensers rusting out. She can’t wait till it dies.

We've had this Maytag for about a year now. The wife absolutely loves it. It has all the features you are looking for. .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress.

Mom just bought a new set of Whirlpool. The washer has a bad feature where it "walks" across the room while spinning. Some after the purchase google indicates that this is a problem with that specific model. So, I'd recommend googling specific model before purchase.

Do not EVER buy anything Whirlpool. Microwave, 2-repair visits, parts replaced Washer, 4-repair visits and almost every part replaced (and still not right) Refrigerator, 4 or 5 repair visits, parts replaced and still has issues Maytag would be my choice as we are never again buying anything Whirlpool branded 'I am the danger'...Hiesenberg NRA Certified Pistol Instructor NRA Certified Rifle Instructor NRA Life Member

I had an appliance dealer demo a Maytag vs anything. He put a Sears catalog in the basket and set it on spin. The Maytag didn't shake. Everything else was walking across the floor. _____________________ Be careful what you tolerate. You are teaching people how to treat you.

We have this model MVWX655DW1. It's 5ish years old. HD purchase. Overall it's been good. Recently though it dumped a bunch of oil and the actuator that makes the center agitator engage/disengage broke. It's plastic. Amazon special and it was back up and running for $20 and about 30mins of my labor and basic hand tools. Came in a kit that had a new belt and plastic clutch like assembly. Replaced all due to oil contamination of belt. Now it works but every few washes makes a horrible grinding noise. Im sure it's the transmission going out but it still works. Will replace once it finally dies. Our experience has been any of these retail appliances last about 5 years then they either give up or start needing parts. Fortunately most parts are cheap now in price and sadly quality. So if you're a handy DIY person you can keep them running for longer. If you have to pay a repairman then you just buy a new unit. If this transmission goes out it'll be cheaper to replace whole washer since this part is the most expensive of all parts. The Maytag motor has a 10yr warranty. But it's a basic motor, not the transmission. It's what spins the pulley that turns belt that turns transmission. It's a basic electric motor so I definitely can see it lasting 10yrs. No moving parts or plastics for the most part. Our dryer is a GE, it's 13-14yrs old. It has less parts, basically it's a drum turned by a belt turned by an electric motor and the heating element. No gears and minimal plastic parts. The Maytag washer replaced its GE washer that we bought together. The washer lasted about 5yrs. The dryer though just had some part failures. Again Amazon and back up running. I'm sure it's on its last leg though. It doesn't dry as efficiently as it use too. And yes I've cleaned out the vent and the dryer, do on a regular basis. We are "looking" for new replacements but will hold out until one of these has a catastrophic failure. I'll be curious what you end up buying. Para, When it came time to replace our +20 year old Kenmore set about five years ago, the advice from our appliance ‘repair guy’ was, to the effect. . . “Almost everything is shit now and not made to last. Buy an old Maytag or S-Q if you can. Other than that, get something with mechanical controls and with an actual agitator if you can.” Also, after experiencing a bad delivery or two over the years by non-english speaking crews contracted by the ‘big box’ stores, a purchase from a trusted local store with their own delivery crew may be worth considering (which we found to be MUCH better!). __________ "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy."

Aren't Whirlpool, Maytag & Amana all under the same corporate umbrella? The Enemy's gate is down.
