"You are getting visitors" is not that vague or distant a threat. As I said earlier in this thread, I asked the responding officer, and he was very clear about it: This was a threat. You take threats seriously.

You apparently are not fazed by threats from strangers, and I'll leave it to you to respond as you see fit should it ever happen. Me, I listened to the advice that came in here, and I'm glad I called the PO PO.

I would likely leave a review on this guy which accurately reflect the events to include the that and police report. Wink

If I had to use deadly force to protect myself or my family, there is no question that I'd be in a much better position legally-- and before a jury, if it came to that-- having told the police of the threat and filed a report beforehand. And, as ArtieS says, this guy might (I think probably does) have a record, so it's good to have this piece of info added in.

I have reason to think this guy is a meth-head, so what he will or will not do is anybody's guess. The preponderance of advice in this thread was that I should inform the police, and I'm glad that I did. The officer who came to my house agreed as well.

Those who feel differently-- fine. I have no qualms about your doing or not doing whatever you want.

Calling the popo was a good move, get it on record, and send him the money or not, your call, he didn't finish the job, I would give him a negative review on the service you used to find him, otherwise those services offer no value.

I'd keep the card of the guy that did the work handy the first time, he sounds legit...

Like the sound of that, it makes me laugh. Somehow though, actually uttering those words (even if, strike that, especially if they are meant 100% seriously) just doesn’t seem prudent. Perhaps that line is best left to movie actors and mouth-breathers?

nowdays, you cant take threats lightly. last year I got into a heated online argument with an ANTIFA leader out of Knoxville...he 'doxxed' my info and 3 nights later, someone lit the tree in my front yard on fire. I later in the day received a message asking if 'someone stopped by and rattled my white entitlement'. deputy came out, report was filed, detective came out, listed it as arson and couldn't get the guys real info from FB, even with a subpoena...bottomline..protect yourself and prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

Yes, get it on record as others have said.

My thoughts exactly. If someone will kill you because they think you cut them off-- or that you looked at them funny when they cut you off-- then you know the psychos are out there.

Nah I would have handled it myself.

Honestly, this was a waste of time for the police officer to come out, take your "evidence" and then write up a report for 2 hours.

And you probably should have sent him $150 for "half" a job being done. He cant do shit, and his work ethic sucks, as does his customer service.

Go back and actually read the thread. The responding officer even told him that it was a smart move to call it in.

An issue came up on our block involving a group congregating at the corner, adjacent to a municipal parking lot. Non-English speakers drinking beer and littering. Non-communicative to the requests of a single woman resident of the block. Another woman, a single mother, was fearful. An email was sent to community affairs. The police were adamant:

Don't do anything. Let us handle it.

I'm fine with calling in the professionals. Any response a local would have might likely consist of an illegal action against the alleged party.

Actually read the thread?? But...but... it's so much fun to just spout off an uninformed opinion! Roll Eyes Like, for another example, never seeing my house, no idea what work the guy did-- but he's sure that it was only worth $150. I was wrong about a job he knows absolutely nothing about! Oh, I completely agree. That line is from one of those XtraNormal cartoon videos about a gunshop.

Yeah, we NEED to rely on the Police to protect us.
No need for anyone to own guns either.
Also call 911 when your order at McDonalds is wrong.

Pretty soon a teeny weeny text is turned into a full fledged assault.

I can imagine the Po Po rolling his eyes after leaving this crime scene. Smile

Hey, we all have our own approach to things. Mine might have been different than either bubbatime’s or your. My first crack at it probably would have been, “Okay, so you can’t finish the job when you said you would. That’s fine, stuff happens, no sweat. Let me know when you’re ready to finish the job and we can schedule another time for you to come as you know I need to be here to let you in. Oh, you want to be paid? Sure, I am happy to pay you the agreed upon amount when you complete the agreed upon job. No threats of bad reviews, no nastiness, just need to finish the job to get paid, and I’m delighted to pay you once the job is finished...

I think you did the right thing, 100%. I also would have perceived it as a threat, without question.

22 years ago we moved into a home in a suburban neighborhood where our neighbors are located close by and nobody besides me does their own lawn care. One day our neighbors lawn care professional called me over to our fence and informed me that if our dog (Chesapeake Bay Retreiver at the time) ever broke through our aged fence, he’d shoot it.

I was stunned and responded that the dog was family to me and if he were to do so that he could expect I’d respond accordingly.

In retrospect, I think the smarter thing to do would have been to let the local PD know about the conversation. In your case, it’s definitely the right thing to do.

The central issue involves perception and conflict resolution. The old cop on the beat had skills in both areas. I think all of us could use improvement in both areas.
