Should Cop Killers Face Harsher Punishment? Login/Join

This poll is prompted by a similar poll on The Western Journal website. My initial reaction is "absolutely yes", but then after thinking about it I wonder if that is correct. I mean, a murderer should face the harshest of punishments, no matter whether the person they killed is law enforcement or not... right?

What do you think?

Question:
Should cop killers face harsher punishment?

Choices:
Yes
No

If we can't have enforcement of the laws, we are merely animals.
If we kill those that help enforce the law, we are less than animals.

Anyone who is guilty of murder should be put to death. Anything less is not justice.

Absolutely!

First responders, EMTs, and firefighters should also be included.

If hate crime laws (don't forget to pay your drug dealer) offer harsher punishment, could it not be said that the perpetrator 'hates' the policeman that would potentially arrest them?

Murder is murder. Why is a cop’s murder worthy of a stiffer penalty than your murder or mine?

No. Murder is murder. One's occupation shouldn't elevate them above anybody else.

Hate crime laws shouldn't exist for the same reason. We're either all equal under the law, or we aren't.

Some of the responses here, they shouldn't complain if LE doesn't run in to save their family. If they have no extra protection for running toward the danger while we all run away, then who is going to do it?

Understand, I'm not talking about lesser punishment for those that kill citizens. I'm talking about being able to throw the whole book rather than the tradition of dropping charges and making deals just to get some sort of prosecution.

I voted no as I don’t think we need any more ‘special classes’ of people

Our Department of Just Us is so utterly dysfunctional that we’re not even enforcing laws on the books or sentences that have already been rendered.

There are more than 2500 people on death row right now and most are likely to die of old age

No, the punishment should be that same regardless of who was killed (I’m a retired cop).

I also don’t agree with “hate” crimes, why should a particular group be singled out and punishment be different. If I call you a filthy money loving jew, and that’s deemed illegal-the punishment should be the same as if I called you a filthy money loving (insert epitaph here)

I agree….
But I'd be fine with the guillotine as well.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Yes.
If we are going to hold LEOs to a higher standard of conduct then we must hold crimes against them to a higher standard.
